We had a wonderful Middlebury Breadloaf family trip, and we love the Middlebury Inn. The food and service are exceptional, the location is great for walks around town. It is the best place to stay in Middlebury.

I booked a room for my family thinking we would be staying in the Middlebury Inn, based on the pictures. Instead, we were put in an adjacent motel room in the back of the parking lot near the staff cigarette break area. The room smelled musty and not very clean when we entered, and when we turned on the AC to get some fresh air, it smelled of mold. We couldn't open the windows because of the cigarette smell from outside. My daughter has asthma and breathing issues, so I was concerned that the AC coming on and off would trigger that. It really needs to be cleaned. Luckily, we found a great place to eat and a playground within walking distance, so we only had to sleep in the room. I wouldn't have been so disappointed if I had paid maybe $150 for a motel, but this was $350 for a classic inn (which we didn't get). The breakfast buffet the next morning was delicious, thank goodness.

Front desk staff had trouble smiling and finding our reservations, and finding out that the elevator wasn’t coming made our two floors of carrying bags a challenge. On the other hand we had a cheerful and charming waiter over a delicious family breakfast the next day. In the past we stayed in the modern annex with fewer stairs and really loved the Middlebury Inn, its atmosphere, its location, and comforts. Mondays at Middlebury between terms offer few restaurant options— Two Brothers was full, others were closed, so we ate at Rice, a delightful mom and pop Chinese restaurant— not fancy but good.
