Tailwater Lodge Altmar, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

Family of four, we found Tailwater while looking for a place to view the solar eclipse. We were thrilled with the quality of the hotel - an amazing place run by professional and personable people. The hotel made great arrangements for eclipse viewing, offering dedicated areas and solar glasses for guests. The service was great, even with the challenges of the eclipse crowds. Amazing bar staff - very attentive and engaging. The grounds are expansive, with fishing, a walking trail, disc golf and plenty of open outdoor space - you can throw in a line or sign up for a special fishing experience with equipment and boats. There is a great game room with foosball, puck-board and giant Jenga and Connect Four, plus a large table and many board games with a large table and TV. There is an on-site spa and a pool/hot-tub - hot tub is just outdoors from the pool - great set up! This is a great destination for families, couples or individuals, we will definitely be back!

The Property is very nice and certainly stands out as High End especially for the immediate area. I wish the Restaurant wasn't so high priced for dinner, because the ambiance is very nice. That being said, I did not eat dinner there as I wasn't impressed with the breakfast, so I did not want to sample the dinner at the high dinner prices. I also did not use the pool or hot tub as they were both very crowded with so many kids. But both were very, very nice and if not crowded, I would have used them.

Great place for kids to play around in (esp at pool). I can't speak for outdoors activities. Staff very friendly.

Pros Game room - Connect 4 and giant Jenga were fun. Shower - best part of the trip, unfortunately, Cons Reservation change mistakes by the hotel - Expedia called to make a reservation change on 4/12, it was completed, I know for a fact they called because I called before they did and I talked to someone named Kayla, and the Expedia attendant I worked with named her in the notes of our chat. When I got here, the front desk told me no one had called and no changes had been made, so I had to call Expedia from the lobby to have them call AGAIN to make the same change.Very frustrating. Pool was freezing and hazy, didn't look clean. The whole reason we came here was for the family to go swimming, it was much too cold for my wife to go in, me in the kids did so for about 10 minutes. Dissapointing. Hot tub is scalding hot in the corners, jets are on so high you keep getting splashed in the face. TV has no smart functions or internet connectivity. We planned to watch a movie with the kids after going to the pool, and there is no way to setup Netflix or any other apps, only basic cable was available. I had to drive to a Dollar General and buy a HDMI cable for $20 to hook up my laptop to fix the issue. I haven't been in a hotel that didn't have a smart TV in probably a decade, for a place like this not to have them is laughable. No response from housekeeping on phone after multiple calls to get sheets for the sofa bed. Why not just put them in the giant closet in the room?
