Hampton Inn & Suites Houghton

We had a very nice time at Houghton Hampton Inn. It was friendly, clean and a nice breakfast. One thing I do want to mention which was so heartwarming. After checking out of the hotel we started loading up the car with all of our stuff. I received a call from the front desk before we had even gotten out of the parking lot. I believe it was Melissa at the front desk. She said that the staff had discovered my jewelry still in the room. This was a wonderful thing to do, since it was family items and my wedding ring. Thank you so much for our wonderful stay and for preventing a possible personal loss.

Jaring to see Welcome to Michigan anywhere in the UP. Poor branding decision that dismisses the local cultural identity. Road construction outside was inconvenient but will be resolved. Need better parking spot identification, especially temporary parking spots. Poor parking lot signage in general. Room was nice, basic. Pool was brand new and nice for two toddlers. Gym looked great but was unused by us. Lobby was great as was breakfast, could have used more juice and fruit options, there are no dairy free alternatives for yogurt or milk which limited our options. Staff seemed friendly but limited in what they could assist with. Obnoxious blinking light above the thermostat blinked every 2-5 seconds. Light on the fire alarm blinked every 15 seconds, which makes for a very bright room. The updates in general are nice to the hotel, but I'm underwhelmed compared to the previous Magnuson branded hotel. The view is spectacular and the location is hard to beat.
