I have stayed at the Black Bear Inn many times before it joined the Choice Hotel family. The ambiance is warm. The staff are very friendly. The location just off of the exit is extremely convenient. And so far each room has convenient electrical plugs as well as USB-A ports for charging devices.

The room had a very strong smell of smoking and mold, and we notified the front desk as soon as we got into the room. We were told that the manager would be able to give us a room only if someone cancels it. Though there were other rooms available in the hotel, they charged more money than our booking. The front desk said she can not move us to another room and we can talk to the manager the next morning. At 10pm we were told that someone had canceled their booking, so they agreed to move us to another room on the first floor (our children had to stay on the third floor). They did not want to provide us with any compensation. I will not recommend staying there.

Guest services staff upon arrival was excellent. The rooms were decent, beds very comfortable. Continental breakfast was very lacking. Not nearly enough dietary options and what was there was mostly cinsumed by 830 am, no hot water for oatmeal (had to ask guest services to replenish), no yogurt left, no bagels left, and what fruit was there was wrinkled and dated. It could have been better. Small dining area. But my kids fared fine despite that. Theyll eat anything. 😋

The Black Bear Inn is my favorite little hotel in the world. Every time we've been, we've been welcomed like family (the "good" kind of family, not the nasty ones!), even though it might never be the same desk manager twice. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the breakfast is always fresh. I wish I could have a "permanent reservation" there, so I could pop up to visit any time I wanted to.

We have stayed at hotel previous, always nice. When choosing room on Expedia it showed the delux suite with hot tub. I chose this for a nice night away with my husband.When booking the room it was the delux suite with the hot tub. I did not get the room with the hot tub. Also the room next to us( room 111) was “conjoining room”. Was like they were in the room with us noise wise( small kids) . Very echoey . Voices carried. Hard to enjoy a night away. And vise versa, we didn’t want to disturb the conjoining room.Thank you, Sue

The hotel was so and so, people were smoking marijuana in their rooms and the smell was really bad. So much for a non smoking facility The room was incredibly small for a family of five

Not a bad place for the family overnight on our trip to Canada. Nothing flashy. Met our needs and was convenient right off the highway. The wi-fi was a bit slow. We loved the bedspreads!
