Holiday Inn University Plaza-Bowling Green, an IHG Hotel

Check in was a problem. Check in supposed to be at 3pm. I tried to get in early, expecting a setback if received. Then find out check in was now 5pm because a football team was staying there. Was in town for a family event with time constraints. Caused problem with plans. Ended up getting in a little earlier. But, had to adjust some plans to make everything work.

The sheets and pillows were some of the softest I’ve ever slept on. The only problem we had was with some guests family knocking on our door until 1:30am. I guess it’s hard for teenagers to remember a 3 digit number these days. (Insert eye roll here)

Our stay was fine. Nothing memorable for my family. A door in the room was broke. The hideaway was more uncomfortable than u would expect. The service was good. The house cleaning lady helped me out when both my keys got unmagnetized.

Cons: Our room smelled like cats. It flared up everyones allergies...the carpet really needs removed. I am pretty positive there was black mold in the bathroom at the ceiling corners. They could work on keeping the main areas vacuumed better. Caution that our room did not have a fridge or microwave...I never would've booked 4 nights here had I realized that, my bad. Pros: The breakfast buffet was good, it was worth it for us to pay $11.95/adult because both our children ate free. The waitress was so kind. The customer service staff were phenomenal! The pool was clean. The atrium was beautiful.

The lady at check in didn't give us our vouchers for breakfast until I asked for them. When we got in the room I was disappointed with the cleanliness. There were greasy hand and face smears on the window. The top comforter had something orange on it. The night stand had something sticky all over it that I just stuck a napkin to (good luck getting that off) and there was a dirty plastic knife on the floor. Glad I found that before my child did. They sent us a text message about an hour after check in asking how everything was. I responded that I was unhappy with the cleanliness (or lack thereof) of the room and never got a response. Guess they don't care much about correcting problems so people will want to return. I will be returning to the area fairly regularly to visit my brother and his family and will definitely be staying at a different hotel next time.

The good: The interior of the hotel is really lovely, although I thought from the pictures all the plants were real and only a few of them are. The room was clean, although there was a musty smell that I just could not ignore. The bed was soft but almost too soft. There were enough towels and washcloths for all of us, which really impressed me because we usually have to ask for more. The room did have a nice view though. The not-so-good: The bellhop carts are extremely old, heavy, and hard to push around. The pool was closed, I wish we had been informed of this beforehand. There were exposed wires where it appears a smoke detector once was, it had smoke damage leading up to the ceiling? There was a vent overhead when you first open the door that was kind of open and freaked my kids out a little. The bathroom has no fan so everyone can hear whatever is going on in there. There was also no mini fridge or free breakfast which sucked since we brought leftovers back.

Smelled like smoke-gave me a headache/Comfortable beds/screaming kids after midnight/terrrrrrible buffet breakfast/room was very clean/won’t be back!
