Van Buren Hotel

Terrible customer service. Being greeted by the front desk staff is comparable to taking a trip to the DMV. They were not happy to see me and I was inconveniencing them to check me in. Good thing I was having a blast with my friends and family it didn't have a huge impact on my trip. It also gave us all a lot to laugh about when we left... pretty much in unison we all said... "Well, I don't think we made any friends with the staff". They were a pretty sad bunch, but we made it fun anyway.

Took some friends for a first time visit to Shipshy and everything including the hotel was wonderful. The kids loved the pool (however the water was quite mirky looking) but overall we was definately happy and will return

We had 3 rooms and they all smelled really bad. Carpets were extremely dirty to the point I didn’t want our kids laying or playing on them. I also didn’t know, if you wanted your room cleaned, you had to request this service or it didn’t get done. We were surprised when we returned late and room was not cleaned.

Loved staying there with my family. Clean, spacious room, and hearty breakfast food.

The photos you see on the internet are deceiving. The property has not been taken care of for quite awhile. Weeds are overtaking the grounds. The photos of the outdoor seating area that looks so comfortable and welcoming was filthy everyday with ashtrays overflowing, trash on the ground around all outdoor seating areas. We stayed for two days and during our stay these areas were never cleaned up by management. The pool...was filthy. For an indoor pool - there was human hair floating in the pool, dead bugs, a gross film...it was gross. The 2nd floor smelled of ash trays - cig smoke and musty mixed together. The disrespect from the mgmt staff (aka the "General Manager") was horrible. The GM was just awful. We don't believe she has much experience in the area of running a hotel and dealing with customers. It seemed it was inexperienced kids running the hotel with attitudes. Horrible experience. For the price we paid - it was a very very very very very very very very bad experience. Oh, "free" breakfast...what they served was not meat or eggs...we strongly encourage you do no stay at this hotel (until experienced mgmt is hired and the place is renovated). Stains everywhere - just a big disappointment all the way around...and the current General Manager played a big part in our disappointment. Very disappointing.

The pool was shut down(not good with 3 kids that were planning on swimming). Only 1 of the ice machines in the whole hotel were working (on the second floor). Need more selections for the continental breakfast.
