Aloft Coral Gables

The aloft Coral Gables was a disappointing property from the Marriott brand. While obviously built into an older building in historic Coral Gables, it was not well maintained and had a peculiar smell in the room. Indeed, our suite smelled like “cat pee” that was being masked by cleaning products. The room was also dark. One other issue, especially in sharing the room as a family was that the bathroom sink area had no door, meaning using it at night or early in the morning would disturb others. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and the beds comfortable. That said, I wouldn’t stay here again.

It was not quiet at all. The walls were so thin. We could hear babies crying and another rooms tv. The staff was not friendly at all. A smile would have been nice. The bartender was attentive and nice. I tried to purchase a $3.09 M&M bag of candy from the front and handed the lady a $5 and she said she did not have change. There was zero efforts or even offering to comp it to the room. We were told housekeeping would visit every day but they did not and we had to go down and request towels and refills for things. I will honestly not stay her again.

Our travel delayed our arrival until 4:50am. The hotel cancelled our reservation that I had already paid in full and they told me I would have to pay to get a room for the night which I had to did bc I was traveling alone with children and needed to rest. The next night the people in the room next to us got into a fist fight and the coral gables police department had to come handle the situation. Also the room they ended up giving me had a view of a wall. Beware!

Pros: Day staff was great, property was in a nice location, safe area, and grounds and hotel were clean. Bed was extremely comfortable and complimentary water was a plus! Cons: evening staff (one in particular) was unfriendly and unwilling to assist in our issue with a soaked floor. Day staff moved us to a different room after having to stay overnight in the first room because our carpets and bathroom floor had water everywhere and it was musty smelling. The second room was much better but still had dampness and milder musty smell. Summary: i have stayed at Aloft before in other locations and LOVED them. If this room issue could be fixed we would definitely stay again in the future. It’s unfortunate that it is like this-one of my children actually now has bronchitis. I cannot confirm that it was the room but also can’t confirm that it wasn’t. Her throat started hurting after about 24 hours there and a few of us came home feeling not the best.
