I learned that the Magnolia hotel was built first in 1910 as a Bank and a family bought the building in 1995 and converted it into a hotel. This hotel has character and history. The hotel is conveniently licated near the conventiin center and just a walk away from Union Station. Cons: one elevator was undergoing renovation and the other 2 elevators were very busy. This is understandable. Love: the hotel offers coffee and tea with a variety of milks to choose from in the mornings. In the afternoons they offer cookies and milk. The gym has a set of weights, 2 benches, 2 peloton bikes, a couple of treadmills, area for yoga etc, and locker rooms. The gym has towels, water and fruits. Is well maintained and clean.

The African American women at the check in counter was very rude to me and my children, she was mugging them and rolling her eyes at my 6 year old daughter when they went to the lobby to get a cookie. I really didn’t appreciate that nor did my daughter deserve to be treated that way.

The hotel is not responsible for its neighborhood, but unless dodging filthy homeless denizens of Denver's skid row is your idea of fun it's not enjoyable leaving the facility to get to one of the attractions nearby. We twice encountered men having violent psychotic episodes, had to skip over their refuse, once had to enter the next door parking garage carefully to avoid the passed out addict whose legs were almost blocking the entrance and witnessed multiple addicts shooting up in the street. The Denver police obviously have other things to do. The room attendant never seemed to acknowledge that 2 adults were staying in the room and needed sufficient towels. A used water glass wasn't replaced. The hotel has 3 elevators. One was never in service and another broke down just in time for high traffic check out time. And if you're not used to living a mile up try using the stairs.

We enjoyed how easy it was to walk to wherever we wanted to go in downtown Denver. There was so much to do and see around there, Convenient shopping, electric scooters everywhere, 16th Street Mall just a block away...it was very nice to be in that spot. It was good there was so much to do, it gave us plenty of reasons to not have to be at the hotel. No amenities, absolutely none! No ice or vending on every floor, no refrigerator, the coffee pot they had was so dusty, we didn't use, so you have to go downstairs to get a cup but boy oh boy, be prepared for the hustle and bustle of the "restaurant". It is right next to the elevators with no divide so everyone can see you coming off in your pjs, just needing your morning cup of coffee. We stopped in to eat there the first day and didn't even end up eating there. The staff wasn't very welcoming and the food options were not family friendly. One part I was really looking forward to was the large bathtub so I could take wonderful, relaxing baths after spending the days walking countless miles and while we were in "luxury". Well their idea of a relaxing bath is a very poorly, yellow lit room with a dingy florescent light above the shower. Also, the bottom of the tub was dark. I tried rubbing it off and couldn't get anything on a towel so that is years of grossness hardened on. Yuck. No way I'm sitting on that. I was so sad. It should have felt welcoming and clean, we all felt the complete opposite.

We reserved a suite, when we arrived we pulled into valet, we were not greeted by the valet. we had to walk over to the stand to request a cart. i was told "they're over there" so i located one and took it to my truck to unload our luggage. about halfway through the valet came over and said i quote " give me your keys" in which i responded to him i would bring them to his stand when we were done unloading. he was not accepting of that and demanded my keys then. After making our way in we checked in at the front desk and made our way to the room on one of the three elevators, after later observation i am pretty sure it was the only one that worked. Once in the room things did not get any better. my family travel all over the country and exclusively stay in suite for the extra room and amenities which this "suite" fell short on almost every aspect. The list of issues compiled so quickly that within 10 min of arrival I was on the phone finding another hotel for the rest of our stay in Denver. I have never in all my years of travel had to do such a thing but I felt grossly misled by the photos and description listed online. A small list of things I couldn't tolerate for over $500.00 per night after all the fee's are simple but not limited to, dirty water damaged floor and cabinetry, light fixtures so dirty the looked like they had film built up on them from hanging in a bar for decades, dilapidated mattress that was severely sunken in, broken faucet and shower etc..

The location is very convenient and walkable from Union Station. The staff are friendly. They serve milk and cookies at night and coffee in the morning. The bed was comfortable. There was only ONE working elevator for 5 out of 6 nights we were there! And that one elevator was slow and small. We discovered the stairs that required walking through the staffs office area. It really put a damper on our stay to say the least. And this place advertises itself as “upscale”. In addition, the AC was very loud, but we were grateful for that at some point because we had a crying baby next door for 3 nights. I know that is life sometimes, but it would’ve been nice if the staff could’ve been a little more considerate of the logistics of our actual adjoining room when placing a family with an infant next to us. They credited 2 drinks for us at the Hotel bar when we addressed some of our concerns. Valet is $49 a night. Public transportation is everywhere, however so are poor homeless folks. Overall, the staff were nice and it was a convenient Downtown location, but I would not stay here again unless they revamped the elevators.

Warning! Do not use the self-parking. Downtown Denver unfortunately has a large homeless population. That made the experiences around the hotel uncomfortable and in one instance, dangerous. I self parked not realizing the lot wasn't attached to or managed by hotel. The elevator in the lot was filthy. After walking my dog (note - love that Maverick didn't charge for dogs), I returned to my car to pick up a few things. There was water pouring out of the 3rd floor of the lot and directly over the entrance to the elevators. Had to walk through the water to get in. A man came running out of one elevator and a women exited another pitch black elevator. I used the elevator anyway but decided to use the stairs to return to the hotel. MISTAKE. There were several homeless individuals in the stairwell using drugs. I was outnumbered and that could have resulted in a robbery or other terrible situation. Luckily, there were just kids and honestly helped me get out of the stairwell. Please be careful here. Use valet parking. The hotel was fine. The staff was generous and kind. The room was spacious.

Room was sub par… I expected much better but the renovations are just crappy. Light fixtures are crooked, crappy sheet rock work, etc. Just a bunch of kids running the front desk and valet- they could barely explain how to park so we just gave up and valet parked. Water and coffee in the lobby were pretty much always empty. The lobby is so loud you can barely hear yourself thing between the restaurant that’s open and all the people gathered everywhere.
