Holiday Inn Express & Suites La Jolla – Windansea Beach, an IHG Hotel

The room was nice, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was great. We just had some athletes (boys) staying above us who made a lot of noise hitting the floor late at night. The toddler with us had a rough time sleeping.

It was awful. I first was given a room with one small window to the view of a wall. It was dark and claustrophobic. Then I requested a move and got a room next to screaming children and barking dogs. Later after 10 until midnight someone upstairs was scraping and pounding so loud I could not sleep even with earplugs in. I left and checked out at midnight.

We had a great 4 night stay. Loved the location and the sunsets from the balcony. Breakfast was good and always stocked. Our kids loved the pool and hot tub. The room was a good size with comfortable beds. It was nice that there were places to sit other than the beds. The rooms we quiet. You couldn’t hear any street noise or noise from other guests. My only complaint was sometimes the water pipes made loud squealing noises in the morning that would wake us up. It wasn’t constant but a little annoying. Overall, we would stay here again and would recommend.

Great for our family of 5. It met all our expectations for a nice overnight stay in La Jolla.

Our suite was perfect for our family of 5, spacious and the pullout coach was a lifesaver. The beach was a 5 minute walk away and breakfast was great. So happy we booked this hotel!

This property is a hidden gem. Close to downtown La Jolla and the beach. Walking distance to the tide pools. The rooms are spacious and clean, pool is great. Came with family as a pit stop on our way into San Diego and we will definitely be back. What a great little place.

My wife and 6 year old child decided to have a little getaway. We chose this hotel because of how centrally it’s located. Upon checking in, they realized that the AC wasn’t working in their room. They politely asked if someone can take a look. A maintenance worker came and said that the problem is specific to the room and that they should move to a different room. Upon moving to a different room on a different floor, they had the same issue. No AC. The person at the front desk told them that the hotel is full and that this is a hotel wife issue. They were offered fans to keep the room cool and was asked to open the balcony door for some fresh air. Remember, she was with a 6 year old kid, opening a balcony door wasnt a good idea. My wife checked out the following morning and asked how can the hotel make it right for their experience (the room was hot and uncomfortable to sleep in, despite having a floor fan). She was told to call and speak to the GM. We called the following day and I got a chance to speak to the worst manager I’ve spoken to. A lady who was totally rude and unprofessional. Basically called my wife a liar and said that there is nothing she is willing to do. The GM told us that the hotel had plenty of rooms that night and…. Most frustrating part… the AC issue was only in a few rooms. Most of the rooms did have AC that night. She mentioned that my wife was offered to move (for the third time) and declined which is totally false. I will never stay at this hotel.

Pros: Great value and proximity to Windansea Beach (5 min walk) and decent dining options. Pleasant and attentive staff. Excellent free breakfast and lovely pool area. 2-bed room was adequate for our family of four adults and two young kids. La Jolla is a great family destination, and this HIE is close to all of it. Cons: Parking was tight on some days. No towels were available at the pool. Facility was clean, but is getting dated.

I didn’t understand that I was reserving a “floating” room. They said they meant we’d get whatever they have available for the Expedia rate. My 2 other family members had much nicer s as bad bigger rooms than I had. Didn’t seem quite right. My room was loud and facing the Main Street. The others had quieter rooms. The rooms were fine for the little time we were there. The breakfast bar and food was very good! Great coffee too. Didn’t use the pool. Very close to the ocean!
