Atholl Palace Hotel

My daughter's and I shared the family room which was pretty large. Beds were comfy and bathroom quite big too. It is a lovely hotel with great food although I think the drinks are very pricey. Tea and coffee in lounge is charged at £5.50. The wine was very expensive too. I was charged £19 for one tea and a 175 ml rosé wine with a wee drop of lemonade in it so that was £13.50 for the small wine. The swimming pool and spa were really lovely and my daughter's enjoyed their spa treatment. Overall thoroughly enjoyed. Outside they have tennis courts, putting and pitch and putting which I think were free of charge. We didn't have time to use these facilities but saw others enjoying them.

Hotel is a nice historical building and has spectacular gardens. However inside renovation is of low quality. No porter, no complementary bottled water, which is a shame for this price range. One important issue is some rooms presented here are not in the historical building but they are in the supplementary new buildings (why would anybody stay there?). Receptionist changed our family room to the historical building but forgot to mention that there is no lift access to the tower where the room was. We had a baby stroller. Also they served a glass of scotch whiskey to other patrons but not to us, which was not polite. They also forgot to mention that they don't keep anybody at the SPA after 5pm. I called from the room and nobody picked up. I walked down the reception to ask about it. They gave me an access code. For this level of hotel you cannot cut costs like this. They don't give you flip flops and they charge money for robes. I had to make several trips to my room at the tower to figure out how to use the SPA. Dinner was interestingly very good. Restaurant was managed by employees from EU which made a huge difference. I had the best lamb shank of my life. UK employees will just pass by you while you are trying to ask them a question, which is considered very rude in hospitality business. Breakfast was very poor for this tier of hotel. Wifi doesn't work in the rooms properly. Overall I would still recommend this hotel for its unique nature, but it needs many improvements.

The Atholl Palace Hotel is a true gem. We were extremely well received, and taken to our room through the maze of halls and corridors. The family room was enormous and squeaky clean. The hotel facilities are great: snooker and pool table, tennis courts, indoor swimming pool and spa... We really enjoyed our stay.
