Perfect location to reach all major attractions. Bring in the Grassmarket is wonderful for the castle, dining, shopping, and tours. Great staff as well who was very kind and informative. We stayed in a family suite and it was very nice. It’s is Edinburgh though, so if you plan on walking be ready for hills and stairs. Hotel was very accommodating in getting transportation for my grandmother. Looking forward to a return visit.

The staff recommendations were fantastic; food, currency exchange, tours, places to see, quick markets. Housekeeping was wonderful. We didn't need them until we checked out & they were totally fine with that. We will certainly recommend Apex Grassmarket Hotel to our colleagues & family members that are visiting Edinburgh.

Let’s start with the positive. Apex Grass Market is in an absolute perfect location. Love this area and the hotel is slap bang in the middle of it. Whilst massively overpriced for what it is, I chose to pay nearly £400 a night to stay in Grass Market. That the rooms are dated, they don’t have AC, breakfast is meh, and it’s noisy as hell after 11pm when all the drunks pour out of the bars, is a compromise I was willing to make based on where we were. Reception, bar and restaurant staff were all super nice and friendly and the family room we booked provided the comfort and space for our 3 night stay. Now the negative. I mistakenly left a valuable item (sleep and health monitoring ring) in the bathroom. I should have known better but complacency sets in when you’re relaxed. Unfortunately this item was missing when I returned and following my room being cleaned. (Ironically they neglected to remove the dirty glasses). The missing item had a Bluetooth link to a phone app; because it was no longer being picked up when I returned, suggested it had been removed from the room rather than being moved or misplaced in it. I notified the hotel management immediately and they did what they could. They were empathetic, fully cooperated and investigated, but as one would expect this is difficult to resolve satisfactorily unless you catch someone red handed. As a result, I won’t be returning to the hotel as the incident has ruined what was an otherwise pleasant stay and has shattered all conf

Great location for seeing the old town - castle and royal mile, pros were varied and tasty breakfast menu, spacious room - we had family castle view room, which had as described excellent castle views, great selection of teas and biscuits in the room. One drawback was the duvets - which were winter tog rating, as the room had no option to open window or air con, having a spare summer duvet if these were too hot would be nice. I would happily stay at this hotel again.

My family had a wonderful stay at the APEX Grassmarket Hotel. The rooms were great (we had two), the staff was phenomenal, and the central location of the hotel made visiting local attractions very easy. The hotel is wonderfully located next to great restaurants and shops so we never had to go far to enjoy a great meal or pick up gifts and souvenirs. Across the street from the hotel we were able to board the Hop On / Hop Off bus that conveniently transported to the best tourist sites. One minor improvement the hotel could do is have air conditioner units in the rooms for the months when it's very warm. There are fans but they just push the warm air.

Breakfast wasn’t good. No robes even thought they were advertised. We booked a family room which was great and clean. Pool area and weird sitting area at lifts were looking tired.

Check in was quick and easy and the staff were very efficient and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The family room was spacious and comfortable and we had a great view of the castle. Could be improved by better cleaning of carpets, bathroom and hair on sheets and cushions. Also, didn’t have enough items in the room for 4 of us such as cups and glasses, shampoo. Breakfast was a good choice of hot and cold foods and drinks. Some haggis/black pudding and breakfast muffins would have been nice.

One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. Staff was sterile and had no warmth or recommendations/orientation of the area upon check in. I was asked to fill out a check in form online the night before to supposedly create a faster check in only to have to fill out everything again upon arrival. They also demanded full payment upfront when we arrived even though our room was not ready and we were simply dropping luggage off. Hotel was generally unkempt, dirty, and in poor condition throughout, including the pool and the toilets in the restaurant. This hotel is charging outrageous amounts compared to other 5 star hotels in the area and at these prices, no basics offered like robes for example. The shower leaks everywhere due to the lack of a proper rubber lip on the door. Toilet seat was broken and no one came to repair it, even after bringing it to the managers attention. Upon complaining to the manager on duty I was offered breakfast, but only when it was convenient for them, since she explained that they had larger groups that needed accommodation for an early breakfast. Breakfast offered to us was for 9:30-10:00 (with a five year old), so completely unrealistic to wait until 9:30am with a five year old child. She then proceeded to tell me she was off duty that evening. We were eventually offered another room and a discount after voicing our serious displeasure but our experience and treatment by the staff was horrible.
