Gray Manor Hotel

Love the staff and the feel of the hotel. Felt like we were part of the family.

For the price this was excellent value, and the included breakfast was great and offered excellent choice, for vegetarians/gluten allergics as well. There is a homespun quality to the place that overwhelms some of the shortcomings (tired decor) staff were friendly and helpful. It is very near the main road to Stonehenge (which we were visiting) and a convenient base to explore Wiltshire (white horse carvings, Avebury, Stonehenge, West kennett, Longleat etc). The hotel has just come out of covid restrictions which has hit a lot of hotels badly, especially ones like this - so we were prepared to overlook a few niggles as they were clearly trying very hard to get things back on the rails - given the situation we were happy here. Great friendly staff (huge husky hotel dog included). I actually liked having keys instead of a key card and easy access at all hours. I can imagine that if there was a wedding on (this is a wedding hotel) it could be a very different place but my kids and I were among only a handful fo guests and it was all very friendly in a low-key way. Much prefer this to anonymous chains.
