Astoria Lucerne

Astoria Lucerne is a perfectly adequate hotel. The room furnishing/decoration is on the sparse side, however. My family had two separate "superior twin room". There was a desk, desk lamp, and armoire. The armoire had a couple very small shelves to place a pair of shoes and maybe a few items of folded clothing. A little nook next to the desk to place a single check-in size bag. There was no dresser to place clothes into. The bathroom size was adequate, but very little counter space to place your toiletries. The rooms could benefit from more electrical outlets, but this is a common fault of most hotels. The carpet could use some deep cleaning. The location is good. 7 minute walk to the Lucerne Train Station, 5 minutes to Chapel Bridge. The Thai Garden restaurant is underwhelming. I live in Los Angeles where there is a plethora of wonderful Thai restaurants. Unfortunately, the Thai Garden restaurant inside the Astoria Lucerne Hotel was substandard in food quality, not to mention extremely overpriced. Yes, I understand that Thai food is somewhat rare and considered exotic in Switzerland. But a simple dish of Pad Thai does not warrant a 50 CHF ($60 USD) price tag in my opinion. Even in Los Angeles where cost of living is almost as high at Switzerland, pad thai does not come anywhere close to that price tag. But, if the supply-demand curve for Thai food in Lucerne dictates that price, then so be it. The breakfast buffet was very good. No complaints here
