Overall we were relatively happy with our stay, but at £820 a night (for the Sapphire Family Retreat) I expected so much more. The listing on Expedia & hotel’s website do not indicate that the family retreat is essentially two hotel rooms with interconnecting doors - not sure these interconnecting doors are worth paying more for. We had a member of staff confess this is a complaint the hotel has heard before. During our stay, we celebrated my mum’s 70th birthday. We mentioned this in the notes when we made the reservation, and reception confirmed they were aware of this at check-in and that they would organise a nice surprise for her. On the day of her birthday, it got to 6.30pm before I decided to go down and speak to guest relations (GR) about where her ‘surprise’ was, as we hadn’t planned a cake (given the hotel said they would provide this). GR apologised for the delay and said there was an event happening that evening at one of the restaurants that everyone had been focused on. When the cake did arrive, it was a standard chocolate cake - no writing on the plate etc. Very underwhelming. My brother asked GR if there was anything they could do to help him plan his proposal. One of the GR women told him he was “giving her a headache” which I thought was quite rude. Food selection at breakfast and dinner was great, but food itself was super bland. Haute Living lounge snacks were the same. Rooms were lovely, as were the pools & lake.

A nice base for a family holiday, good for those with young children/babies

This is a beautiful property that was ideal for my family (2 yr old boy). From being met by the porters to personally escorted to breakfast by the receptionist, this hotel excels in looking after its guests. We loved the heated outdoor pool and the crèche that we availed of several times. The only downside was the price of the drinks. €8 for a glass of wine should not be the cheapest option especially as it’s local wine. We would have spent more time in the hotel bar but the drinks were just too expensive. We also heard this complaint from several other people. It’s a shame as it’s enough to make us try a different property next time.

Absolutely fabulous staff, luxury setting whilst still being family friendly. Great location beach and Marina in walking distance.

Absolutely stunning hotel and great location to both the marina and beach with a short walk The pools are lovely and also the lake The breakfast was superb with so much choice plus really fresh The only downside was the lunch menu which was more like a dinner option, would like to see smaller options such as a small ham toasted sandwich Also the chicken wrap was very dry and daughter had the kids pasta which hadn’t been drained properly so was drowning in water and lacked taste

Absolutely amazing. We have 4 month old baby at the time and they went above and beyond to cater. Also nadia was very helpful with everything.

Hugely disappointing! Welcome was average and No upgrade as suggested having vip access , which would have been good seeing as the Room was well below average and advertised with a garden view … the view was onto the noisy tennis courts of kids and on the loading bay back of house where old mattresses get chucked out and bins picked up! We then went to breakfast and grabbed some food before heading out - plastic chunk ) (from what we can assume came from packaging ) in the pancakes! We were subtle and let the staff know thinking they’d deal with it however they just said ok, help yourself to something else. The manager followed up later on but it was a slow and poor reaction time. We left something in our room on check out - We could see it in our ‘apple find my..’ - contacted them same day with the screen shot .. and a phone call.. limited response, and still not resolved! Been traveling the world and not had service quite as bad as this!! Do not recommend this place. Sad!

We stayed here recently for our honeymoon. The hotel is nice, there are 3 good sized pools and the food/drinks are lovely. I wouldn’t recommend for a special occasion though as I was a little disappointed that we had told them of our special trip but there was no nice touches (eg a fruit bowl/ glass of wine on the house etc). We weren’t even able to have a late check out. We also didn’t expect there to be so many kids linos in the pool, or constant kids ball games. Overall would recommend the hotel for families. But not for couples who want to celebrate a special time.

I was really impressed with The Lake Resort, Vilamoura. It is a very quiet, family friendly and private hotel. Everything was spotless and the staff very helpful.
