Booked this place for my daughter as she came a day early to meet us in Amsterdam and the Saturday night hotels were really pricy. Paid a lot for the room here (price went up about $50 in the hour we were deciding where she'd stay) and then the pocket door in her room reeked of urine. Additionally, on a Saturday night she was kept awake by the partying at the on-site clubs. So, the $211/night single room was fine for her having come off of 12 days in hostels, but she said that the hostels she'd been staying in were cleaner and quieter. (I'm really glad we didn't choose this place for our family stay, though we'd considered it based on the good reviews.)

Stayed three nights at Volkshotel, due to a conference at the RAI. Completely silent room on 6th floor, no noise whatsoever. Room was clean, a little bit «tired» but no problems. No cleaning before night 4 unless you ask for it, which makes total sense and could be adopted by more hotels. I was upgraded to a room with four beds which would be nice for a family, quite spacious. Staff was very friendly, and the reception area / bar had a cool and relaxed vibe. Breakfast was OK at best, I would go to a cafe instead if I were there on holiday. There is a metro station just outside. All in all good value for money, I would happily return.

We stayed in a 4 person room which was very spacious and comfortable. The kids loved sleeping in the Dutch cupboard. We had a lovely meal at the restaurant. The hotel has a funky vibe and is a bit different to your usual hotel which we really liked. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

This hotel is packed with good design, good ideas and friendliness! It is located a 25 min walk along the Amstel river from the old center of Amsterdam, or you can rent a bike provided by the hotel. The rooms and facilities are great, but the main thing is the atmosphere that they have created. The "Elevator Karaoke" itself is almost worth a stay, greatest idea ever! This is me and my children's new favorit hotel.

The hotel is on top of a nightclub and you will hear bass in your room until the early morning hours. The receptionists are incompetent and can’t do basic tasks like book an additional night correctly. The food is mediocre, but that seems to be par for the course in Amsterdam. Good for trust fund kids, adults beware.
