Shiki Suites - Kyoto Umekoji

We spent 3 nights in this hotel, and it was perfect for our family of 3. My daughter slept on the pull out sofa and since it was a little separated from our sleeping area she had more privacy than any other place we stayed in Japan. There was a free shared laundry facility right across from our room which was very convenient. We never got a chance to check out the bar and restaurant downstairs, but it seemed nice. The location was only about a 10 minute walk from Kyoto station so it was easy to find great food options and get around. The only tricky thing was there wasn’t a lot of room to open our bags because the pull out sofa took up the living space, but we made it work!

This is a great place about a 10 minute walk to Kyoto station and other bus stops. The rooms are pretty spacious. The rear bedroom area has a patio. The middle was a good size bathroom and the front has a small kitchenette and fold out couch. My family of four (kids 10 & 8yo) were quite comfortable here. The hotel does not do daily trash, towels , etc. (American style). Very nice place!

Excellent hotel near Kyoto station. Hotel and rooms were up-to-date and in great condition. Staff was superb and extremely helpful especially since my family and I had to extend our stay by one night because of typhoon Hagibis. Would highly recommend and stay there again!

Amazing little place you may just walk by without noticing; I did! lol This hotel is quite a gem! Good prices, and incredibly friendly staff. They also rent out wi-fi hotspots that were essential for our travel with no cell phone service. Just threw it in the backpack and was ready to see the sights. Rooms were incredibly spacious after coming from Tokyo and staying in one of their shoe-box rooms lol I chatted up the Brit manning the desk on our last day and got some good pointers on moving there, I fell in love with the country and Kyoto so much :D I left my cell-phone on a bullet train from Kyoto to Tokyo in a train mixup (got on one of the bullet trains not covered by the JR pass), I saw some high-school kids waving frantically as the train sped off from the station we temporarily hopped off on making a cell phone shape and banging on the windows with their hands and realized they were trying to let us know the phone was left in the seat... my first thought was actually "you know, I bet it'll be in the lost in found when we get to Tokyo", and ya know what? It was. One of the train conductors even walked us over to meet someone, so it should go without saying that the politeness of the culture was rather amazing. Not like here in the 'States, where this Iraq war combat vet is constantly anxious about what lunatic may be packing a gun...
