Hotel Santa Maria

This was my second stay at the Hotel Santa Maria. The location, Trastevere, is perfect. My wife and I are 65 and had no trouble walking to the Vatican, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Colosseum, and other areas we wanted to visit. The neighborhood restaurants (many) are excellent, and attract more Romans than tourists--particularly on weekends. Takeaway food is close and excellent. Trastevere feels more like a small Italian town than a part of a big city. The area around the hotel is somewhat of a party zone for younger people, but noise is not a problem because the hotel is off the street and behind locked gates. The courtyard surrounded by the hotel rooms is shaded by a grove of productive orange trees, and we had breakfast there each morning. The staff is very friendly and helpful (directions, taxis, and general advice). The rooms are not fancy, but are nice. Overall, a classy place for the moderate price. I would recommend the hotel to anyone, and think it would be particularly nice for children (safe area to play away from traffic and great breakfast).

This is an ideal location for visiting Rome, right in the heart of Trastevere. The location is gated and safe and managed brilliantly, 24 hours. The area around the hotel is teeming full of restaurants, bars, pastries, pizzas, open long into the early AM. The hotel is unique in its garden like setting, a nice happy-hour lounge, good breakfast, and most of all the best staff. The staff is excellent, very helpful, knowledgeable and go out of the way to make you comfortable. This place is highly recommended and my family and I will stay there again in the future.

The staff there were very friendly, the location is very close to a lot of touristic attraction. I love the breakfast and the happy hour at the outdoor court yard. this hotel is a hidden gem, great for family. I will definitely come back

I stayed here with family to celebrate my mums 60th birthday last week. From start to finish, all the staff were so friendly and helpful, Our room was clean and spacious, set over 2 floors for the 5 of us.. and we just loved the courtyard, the orange trees and Chanel the beautiful dog! Breakfast was fabulous as was the hotels happy hour between 5.30 - 7.30 which we all thoroughly enjoyed again in the courtyard. Bar and minibar prices were reasonable too. If there wasnt so much to see in Rome we would have happily spent all day in the hotels surroundings! All 5 of us (age range 18 - 60) loved the Santa Maria and the surrounding neighbourhood of Trastevere, it was brilliant for bars, restaurants and people watching. Im hoping to return next year with my husband too. Thanks for an AMAZING stay!
