Hotel Kanslarinn

This family owned business really came through for us when our other hotel (hotel hella) cancelled our reservation! Our room was updated especially the bathroom. The breakfast was good but most of all it was quiet. Though right along Rte 1 we heard no road noise. Close to some excellent hikes.

Booked a room for 2 adults and a 13y old child. Messaged 4 weeks before arrival to say extra fee for bed for child. This 2nd fold out bed was squeezed into a double room. The bedside tables were shoved into corners and there was no room to move around the beds let alone put cases. There was no one at the desk for either check in or check out. At breakfast no one spoke to us and the restaurant decor was very old with peeling paint on window sills and green net curtains. We stayed in 4 other 3 star hotels in Iceland during our holiday and all others were lovely at a similar price point.

Room was smaller than others we stayed at in Iceland but, probably because there was a misunderstanding in that I booked a room for 2 adults and 1 child, my 17 year-old, but they thought I was booking for 2 adults and a small child. However, they immediately put in an extra cot so we had enough bedding; just cozy. Room was very clean, and very warm, shower was hot and plenty of water and water pressure. Included breakfast was ok though not exceptional. Staff were all super friendly although English was a bit limited; but I really appreciated their efforts since I speak no Icelandic! And location was perfect!
