Midgard Base Camp

Very clean and simple design. Plenty of space to keep our things. Comfortable mattresses and good choices of food. The kids, 6 and 8 loved the rooftop jacuzzi. Beautiful surroundings and friendly staff.

The first to say is that Midgard Base Camp does not feel like the stereotypical hostel that one imagines. This starts with the lobby area that has a fun and cozy setup and the restaurant and bar area. Also, the room options are more than just a shared room with bunk beds and community bathrooms. Those do exist but we stayed in a private family room with a private bathroom. There is a hot tub and sauna that we also used. Gina, the hostess, is very fun and provided us with good information. The location fit our needs for our tour of the South of Iceland. There isn’t much else around this area to stay and Midgard offered a good option and is also close to various food options. We would definitely return.

This location was our FAVORITE of the 4 different locations we stayed during our recent trip to Iceland. We were a family of 5 and I was nervous about the bunk arrangement but it was PERFECT! The bathroom facilities provided privacy as well. But the BEST part of the location was the STAFF who were amazing! They were so friendly and clearly enjoy working together. The atmosphere is relaxing - we spend the evening playing cards in the main room and had a blast. The food was FABULOUS and FRESH. We even spent time speaking with the Chef. I would stay here again without hesitation and would highly recommend to anyone.

Friendly staff! Booked room with private bathroom and the room was spacious and modern. Great facilities including a shared kitchen , hot tub sauna and laundry. For the kids there is a tv and foosball table in the lobby with a ps4 to entertain the kids. On site restaurant and bar as well. Family owned business with super friendly staff. Great location to get picked up by the bus at the nearby gas station to Thorsmork. Also a great resting stop as you drive along the southern coast. When we return to Iceland we will definitely return!
