Hotel de Bourgtheroulde, Autograph Collection

Beautiful and charming hotel in a great location for exploring Rouen and surrounding areas. The staff were very friendly and very helpful. Valet parking worked well and was much appreciated. Lovely room with the turret bathroom fulfilling my childhood dreams! Some attention to detail needed as room was a little tired looking in places (carpet had stains on). The big negative was that having emailed in advance to ask about vegan breakfast options, I was assured that the hotel catered for all dietary needs. It did not. The only thing I could eat for breakfast was fruit - there were no plant based yogurts, milks or any bread that was suitable for vegan diet. I did ask several different staff but in the end we drove to a Carrefour and bought plant-based yogurts, cheese and bread, so that I could eat something other than fruit for breakfast. This was disappointing for a hotel of this standard, when everything else about it was lovely.

This is a beautiful and interesting hotel in a historic building in downtown Rouen. It is incredibly conveniently located within walking distance of all the major attractions as well as the train station (maybe a 15 minute walk, but very doable). I was traveling with my 6 year old and was attracted by the pool. It is very, very cool -- beautifully designed, but a class roof that serves as the floor of the bar. There were several families at the hotel, but I would not call it a family hotel. It would be more appropriate for couples/adults. The staff was very good, but a bit too obsequious for my taste. And I booked a less expensive room, and the attendant who brought us there kept drawing attention to the fact that "this class of room has only a shower, not a bath" "this class of room has a less impressive view." I thought that lacked tact. Clearly I had chosen the room I wanted, and didn't need him to apologize for me. The breakfast is worth considering. Good coffee and a full range of options. The quality was good, but not excellent. However, go well before closing time for the breakfast buffet. We arrived about 20 minutes before it closed, and without warning us, they started putting things away 10 minutes before it was supposed to close. While in general the hotel was quite nice, the restaurant was not as clean as I might have expected. And the waiters were loud and negligent. They were banging silverware and dishes the whole time we were there. Not very relaxing.
