A great family oriented hotel with tons of history and character, it is a 5 star hotel guaranteed! Clean, spacious, lots of green and animals walking around for people to appreciate. Will be back.

My family and I booked two rooms from 12/20-12/25. A total of 9 guests. We were assigned rooms 105,106. Rooms are falsely advertised in Expedia through photographs. What is shown does not display the filth and lack of up to date maintenance a hotel should maintain. While I understand that this was one of the first hotels in Cartagena, conserving history/structure and maintaining a property up to date are two different things. To start off, room 106 was extremely hot and the AC wouldn’t work no matter how the thermostat was adjusted. I did bring it up to housekeeping but there was never a solution. In comparison to room 105, the temperature was perfect. I had to constantly go over to my sisters room in 105 to cool off because the heat was too much for my family and I. Not only did the shower look absolutely disgusting with how outdated it was, it was simply very uncomfortable (not a practical layout) difficult sink and shower handles (often times they wouldn’t close), mold, dirtiness, and to top it off, our water would go cold often times during showers. This was brought up to Ms. Gomez at the reception desk who then handed the situation to guest relations. Although staff and housekeeping members were very courteous to us during our stay, it does not take away from matters that need attention at this resort. Had we not been there for a wedding, dealing with different activities on a daily, we would have asked for a refund on the first day to leave elsewhere.

This is rated as a 5 star hotel, and I got an ocean view room which did not have balcony and it was not specified in the booking, also the ocean view was less than partial due to the hotel is not in first line of beach and in the from of my room they have the beach tents, also the bathrooms needs improvements right away. The service was excellent and the environment with the deers and slots and all the animals are a must for families, the food and drinks were very good also. In general it was a good experience but definitely not a five star hotel and the price was too elevated for what they offered.

My husband and I stayed for a week and overall had a fantastic time. Hotel is beautiful! Buffet breakfast was included and it was so good with lots of traditional food which was great. Staff at front desk, bellman, doorman, waiters and waitresses are beyond friendly. Always smiling and sweet. Cleanliness was top notch! Very easy to get transportation. Doorman calls cabs for you and they arrive in seconds. Upgrading us to a junior suite in the Laguito building when we arrived was a nice gesture. However, room looked old and there was a party going on in a private residence across the street that was so loud we asked to be switched. We were switched to a room in the same building on a lower floor facing another side and we could still hear the party very loud but we decided to tough it out. After we got back from dinner, it was louder so we were moved to a room on the colonial side and the room was beautiful! The downside of that side was the loud music playing until almost 5 am every night by the pool area. The pool closes at 8pm so there is no reason for this extremely loud music to go on until 4:30-5. Out of a full week, only one night was quiet and we were able to sleep. After the second night of not sleeping, we had to go get ear plugs. Aside from the loud music and lack of sleep, I would recommend this hotel. It was an amazing vacation and staff went above and beyond for us!

Great property for groups (families, bachelorettes) - the animals are such a fun feature and the pool is just perfect for hanging out. For an affordable vacation destination, we thought the restaurant was a little overpriced but the variety was great. Room was spacious but a bit dated. The historic main building was too cool, with staff that spoke enough English (or understood my okay Spanish!). They always have 1-2 taxis ready to take you anywhere, and all the staff are very ready to help!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The clean swimming pool and shared spaces were great. The staff were very friendly. During our stay I saw that guests with various disabilities were given personalized attention to accommodate their needs. This is not something that I have seen before in hotels and it speaks to how caring and attentive the staff are as it really seemed that they went above and beyond. We had a courtyard room that definitely left a lot to be desired in terms of the view but we spent so little time in the room that it really didn’t matter. We loved the breakfast buffet and thought there was a great variety. My kids loved the game room with tennis table and there is a small gym. I had read other reviews about the need to get up early to get a spot by the pool but we didn’t have any problems getting a cabana bed by the pool. In summary, I would highly recommend the hotel as somewhere to relax by the pool.

Traveled with family- 11 yo & 1 yo. We picked this specifically for its kids-friendliness and it was perfect for that. Nice included breakfast buffet, many roaming animals, we saw a giant and a baby sloth !!

I loved this Hotel, and I will definitely be coming back when I am in Cartagena. The hotel is historic because it is one of the 1st ones incorporated in the area. The facilities are beautiful. There are animals to greet you on the premises, I saw deer, toucan, macaws, peacocks, and others. The lobby is very nice, and the staff is very attentive. The direct and private beach access was one of the bets parts. The pool area is very large and well kept. The atmosphere all together was excellent. The rooms were clean, cable TV, clean showers, and the minibar selections aren't expensive at all (american standards). Yes you can stay at fancier and more luxurious places, but the Hotel Grand Caribe is an authentic Colombian experience. Many families stay here, and I absolutely loved it. The location is also perfect because it is walking distance to the main avenue filled with restaurants, shops, bars, tour agencies, and everything you can think of. Yes the hotel is undergoing some remodeling, but it did not bother us at all. If you want a great place to stay, I would recommend Grand Caribe in a heartbeat! And even if you want to go to Getsmani or the Walled City, an uber ride is less than $5 USD. The breakfast was nice as well with good options, but they could add more for vegetarians/vegans.
