Block Island Beach House

We are dog lovers. We actually thought about bringing our dog. But I have to say, that was one of the things that hindered our happiness at the beach house.the girls both stepped in dog poop didn’t realize it and it was everywhere all over the porch the stairs in our room it was a disaster. The beach was a mess and also had dog poop on it The guy Nicola at the beach was absolutely fantastic and so helpful so I really want to give him kudos. The rooms were not cleaned very well there was popcorn all over the floor in my room and in the kids room was a beer and fishing gear underneath one of the beds. For $1,300 a night I have higher expectations.

There was a gigantic dead insect inside my window being feasted on by ants which somehow as ants do, brought more ants into the room. I thought the maid would have cleaned it but no. The bed was no more than a futon. On the floor no less. My back is unhappy. Good water pressure in the really tiny bathroom. The sink was just about falling off the wall. Unfortunate. I’ve stayed in Lark properties before and they were much better maintained. The staff couldn’t have been nicer which makes it hard to give a poor review, nor did I complain because the beach is truly lovely. Unfortunately it is Patrolled by mean spirited policemen who seem to be looking for drunk college kids daytripping from the mainland. I won’t miss Block Island.

I will stay here again. Did the 2 bedroom suite, which is not in the main hotel (overlooking the beach), but rather down the street. Staff was nice enough, rooms were clean, and I liked fresh coffee in the morning and grabbing breakfast at Persephonies across the street. New pool is a great addition and beds are comfortable. We had the unfortunate luck to be roomed next to a family with a baby, which would start crying at 5:45 or 6am all 3 mornings we were there (Memorial Day wknd). Not the hotels fault, but was definitely a rough aspect of the trip. Walls were not very thick and we could hear the precise conversations of the parents.

Beautiful property and location. Building is very old so floors are not level and the room are very tiny. That’s all fine and part of the character of the hotel. However because of that our bed was out of level by about 6” with the head side down. The staff was very friendly and accommodating is all areas of the hotel and was able to prop up with bed with books to a satisfactory level. The food was delicious and fairly priced. The cocktail prices were definitely on the high end ($14-$16) and were mostly ice but that’s what I’d expect at a place with a primo location like this. This was my first time to block island and I’d definitely stay here again with my wife. If we brought the kids, we’d probably rent a house. All in all, really cool spot with a lot of character, super friendly staff, and great views.
