I’ve exclusively stayed at The Benson for DECADES. I’ve highly recommended it to friends and taken family here over the years. Sadly, the changes made under Hilton are awful. Hilton destroyed the beauty of the lobby with HORRIFIC furniture choices that look cheap and don’t reflect the stunning woodwork or highlight the historic mirror. All three rooms I booked to celebrate my daughters college graduation were dirty - big bloody boogers on the wall, some unknown white powder all over the floor and lamp base in another, food crumbs on the night stand, dirty handprints on the wall, clogged sinks, missing items, and due to the starlight parade happening we were not informed that we needed to go valet our car at a different location…… where the valet made us push our own luggage cart down the street. Again, not the service The Benson has always been known for. Usually I’m greeted with extra treats due to years of loyalty, which was not a big deal, but I note to demonstrate the lack of attention to detail that has been lost. When I mentioned the issues to the staff, even they remarked on the horrible changes and “no one listens to us”. This is NOT The Benson I know and love. The beauty of the lobby and sultry appeal of the Palm Court are completely gone. After 30 years of loyalty, this will be my last stay here. There are a lot of other beautiful vintage hotels in Portland to choose from. Go there and visit El Gaucho here for dinner.

We (family of 4 with 2 young kids) recently stayed at the Benson Hotel in Portland, Oregon, for three regrettable nights, and let me tell you, our experience was nothing short of appalling. Despite the hotel's 4-star rating and the numerous glowing reviews, our stay was a disaster, primarily due to the complete lack of housekeeping services. We were traveling with two young children, which made the situation even more intolerable. From the moment we checked in, we repeatedly requested housekeeping, yet not a single time during our stay did anyone clean our room. Living in filth with old towels lined up and sheets not changed for three days is unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one that prides itself on its high rating and supposed quality. The inconsistency between their advertised standards and the reality of our experience is staggering. It felt like the Benson Hotel exists in a different universe where basic housekeeping services are not provided by default, something I have never encountered in any other 4-star hotel. This utter disregard for cleanliness and customer service completely ruined our stay. I cannot in good conscience recommend the Benson Hotel to anyone, especially families traveling with young children. Beware of the misleading reviews and the supposedly high rating; our experience was anything but pleasant. Stay away from this hotel if you value cleanliness and basic hospitality services.

Can't believe how well they've kept this place up--rooms are fab, and the public spaces are as nice and I remember them as a kid tagging along with my dad!

I enjoyed Old Oregon’s architecture and scene but the open drug use and getting screamed at was not pleasant. I Also walking over dead rats and needles made my children afraid.

Hotel lobby was beautiful. The rooms were good sized and the beds were extremely comfortable. It was also very quiet and relaxing to stay. Staff was friendly and always offering help to me and my family. Hotel bar and restaurant was clean and had great service. I stayed for 4 days and will certainly stay again. Cheers.

Everything is great , including the staff specially the front desk staff . I travelled with 2 kids and the staff made it easier for me with microwave in my room and free water bottle for us. Thank you Benson , highly recommended and will come back.

This was in a great location. Very friendly staff! The valet parking attendants were nice and quick with the car. It was great finding out I had the Expedia VIP upgrade which gave me free valet parking. Parking can be expensive so this was a pleasant surprise! Helpful staff in the lobby! I lost my jacket not knowing exactly where I left it 2 days prior. I asked the wonderful staff in the lobby check in area and they said they’d look into it. When I came back to my hotel room later that day it was found and they brought it to my room! Our waiter was great. We had a child with us and after 10pm they aren’t allowed in the dining area. We were able to eat in the lobby. Our waiter was excellent! Rooms were clean. This hotel had the best mattresses. I slept great! If I’m back in Portland I’ll stay here again.

I booked this hotel based on the reviews and because it was dog friendly. Upon check in when reviewing the dog policy I was shocked to see how stringent and inconvenient their pet policy is. The hotel representative said dogs were not to be left alone and they were prohibited from barking, if they were to bark you would be removed from the property. I was so shocked! I could not believe this was a dog friendly hotel! Because of their pet policy our family was forced to split up and make an additional reservation at a true pet friendly hotel. Half of our party ended up staying across the street at the Hotel Lucia, which was very accommodating with our small dog. I would NOT recommend staying at the Benson if you are looking for a pet friendly hotel. Such a disappointment!
