This hotel was perfect for our family of 4 to stay in North Adams and visit Mass MoCA. The kids loved the pool. I loved the hot tub. The rooms were clean, stylish and comfortable. We can't wait to come back.

We had stayed at the hotel when it was owned by Holiday Inn a few years ago. The room now had the barest of amenities. For instance, no bar soap or facial soap, a small older TV with a dated and difficult interface, and black-out curtains that were too short and let in too much light, waking my wife at dawn. All vending and ice machines were moved to the basement. (Not a huge deal, but still.) The renovation looks like a sloppy stop-gap measure. For example, it appeared that bare concrete walls were left unfinished and painted over with cheap high-gloss black paint. (Esthetic tastes differ, of course, but this looked like something my dad did quickly and without much thought in my childhood basement because it was easy easy, cheap, and fast.) The desk agent was often (though not always) unhelpful. Nice enough, just strangely uninformed. For instance, one young woman at the desk didn't mention the attached restaurant when asked for a convenient place to go for breakfast. (One or two others were better, but they obviously had more experience at this kind of work.) The hotel was clean, and it's two blocks from Mass MoCA, but it's not worth the price we paid. Very disappointing. We weren't expecting more than a mid-range Holiday Inn. We got a lot less.

The purpose of our trip to North Adams was to visit Mass Moca, which was a very short walk from the hotel. It's a predictably pleasant Holiday Inn experience. The views from the guest rooms are quite nice. The indoor pool in the basement is a little run down and depressing but my two kids didn't seem to care. Although I didn't use them, the fitness facilities seemed quite impressive. Breakfast service in the hotel restaurant was quite slow but the friendliness of the staff made up for that small inconvenience. North Adams doesn't offer many great dining opportunities. For a decent dinner, I recommend either the Cafe Latino, right in the Mass Moca complex or a terrific little brew pub that's right across the train tracks from the hotel. (Ask the hotel staff how to get to the brew pub as it's a little counter-intuitive.)

a good choice if you are going to MassMoca, as the kids will enjoy the pool after the art.
