Best Western Plus Parkway Hotel

The elevator was out and we were notified at check in. Since they were full, it's a good thing no one in my family is disabled because I'm not sure there would have been an accommodation for us.

Hotel was central to where my family was. The hotel's elevator was out so we were thankful that it was only two floors. They allow people to bring pets and the room smelled like it even after I sprayed with a disinfectant and household spray. My room was by the staircase so, I heard the door close each and every time the door opened.

The room was on the 1st floor I was happy when I saw the elevator was out of order-the beds were comfortable and clean-the bathroom was clean-the staff was friendly and helpful-the breakfast offered nice variety-the fridge was a nice size-the TV had the Disney channel (we had our grandchildren). Things I had issue with-the thermostat was on Celsius-the carpet was very stained-the microwave was an outdated dial not digital and difficult to cook and reheat in-there was a wasp nest in the handicap chairlift at the pool-there was a prescription medication left inside the dresser drawer.

1. At check-in we were told the elevator did not work and our room was on the 2nd floor. One of our friends in handicap- we had to carry our luggage and hers to get upstairs. 2. The AC did not work. It was 76 degrees despite having the thermostat set at 70. 3. There was urine droplets on the base of the toilet 4. There was what looked to be spilt coffee stains on the curtains and door to the bathroom 5. The refrigerator was so cold it froze our drinks, exploding one of them at 4am while we were sleeping (it sounded like a gun shot) 6. The drain in the shower did not function properly and the water filled up around out ankles during our showers. 7. We got a room in hopes of using the pool, but someone invited friends/family to a birthday party and filled up the small pool. Also, there was a couple smoking weed at the pool.

I am writing this review on 04/23/23 right after checking out, we got this room last minute after a family event. I read reviews on this establishment and figured it was ok to stay at. Sadly I was wrong to start after turning on the A/C and leaving to go get dinner after we returned the room smelled like a moist swamp. Once we laid down to go to bed the smell of the sheets matched the room, As it was 1:00 in the morning we decided to just deal with it. Once we woke up we went to go get breakfast where the only thing hot was the waffles we made ourselves. The potatoes were still frozen and the biscuits and gravy were cold to the touch. After breakfast we returned to our room and prepped to take our morning showers when I noticed Black Mold in the bathroom on the ceiling we notified the front desk attendant who's reaction made it feel like it was a normal complaint. We will not be staying here ever again.

Hotel was dated overall which wouldn't have been a huge issue for our purposes(visiting local family, not a real vacation) but some problems made the stay less than desirable. The room smelled very musty and felt damp somehow, I'm sure there was mold somewhere given the smell. The tub was obviously very clogged, every shower was a bath whether it was plugged or not and it took 15 minutes to actually empty once water wasn't running. The toilet made a terrible minute long squeal when flushed as the tank refilled that would wake everyone up at night if it was used. Housekeeping came one day during our 4 day stay and sat new towels on the toilet but didn't bring new shampoo or anything, and they also didn't take old towels or make beds. There was a pizza crust under the edge of the bed(we never had pizza) and what may have been a center behind the curtain as well as a disgusting amount of soap scum in the tub(probably not helped by the drain issue). Everyday our keycards got deactivated and we had to go to the front desk to get them reactivated. Overall, disappointing and we will stay elsewhere when we are back in town.

We've been staying here for years when visiting family in the area. It's always been a good experience, though how long it's been since the last remodel is becoming apparent. The last couple times we've stayed, spanning over a year the elevator has been out of service, though I can't say if that was just bad luck or a continuous outage. We'll probably try one of the nearby competitors next visit to see how they compare and hope for a refresh here.
