Avid Hotel Macon North, an IHG Hotel

Arrived after midnight the night of reservation, only to be turned away along with several other families because the facility had allowed themselves to be over booked. The hotel hadn’t called in advance to notify us that our reservation wouldn’t be valid and left us to scramble in the middle of the night for another hotel.

The property is brand new and very clean. The area seems pretty safe, but there were some questionable people staying in rooms near us that were arguing most of the night. There were also kids upstairs in the room above us that were jumping on and off the bed until very late that night and we also heard someone messing with our door around midnight. The walls are paper thin and there is just no privacy for conversations. I could hear almost everything the people around us were saying. The rooms were also very tiny, and it reminded me of being on a cruise ship in a tiny interior room. There was just barely enough room to get around the bed. The prices were really good on Expedia, so you get what you pay for. Also, we didn’t get the room we room we booked, as there were none available. Also be aware that there is no hot breakfast, just snacks, for a fee. There are much better hotels in this price range though, so I would look elsewhere for a better experience. I needed rest and I barely slept while I was there.

We booked this spot as our halfway stay in a long Roadtrip. We arrived late, the parking was ample and well-lit; the gentleman working the desk was really nice and helpful. The room was nice, clean and new with plenty of room for four two adults and two teenagers. The breakfast was not fancy, but light and just what we needed on a road trip. The staff were all excellent and so nice (which was why we chose to book here). Now the not so good (for some people): if you like a firm mattress this spot is for you. I have lower back issues, so sadly I didn’t get much sleep. My family did great though. But a non-negotiable for me was a shower that went from lukewarm to cold within just a few minutes. That part was a drag, but I suppose it woke me up for the long trip ahead. I was going to cancel our return reservation at a different spot near the avid and move over to the Avid, but I’m afraid I’m willing to pay a little more for comforts like a hot shower and a soft bed.
