Holiday Inn Express Solana Beach-Del Mar, an IHG Hotel

Chose this over the Marriott courtyard because Expedia said it was 8.4 compared to 8.2 and the price was comparable. Bottom line, don't stay here. My family said on the way to our room that they smelled somewhere between a dead squirrel and a dead skunk on our path. If I didn't drink tonight I would have drove home.

Elevator was not working, ac was not working. Room smelled like mildew and the bathroom door was ridiculously loud and squeaky, I woke up my kids every time I used restroom.

Our rooms were not ready at 4:00. We got there about 3:00 and she said 1 room was ready, then she said neither room was ready. She would text us 10 min before they would be ready. We had drove 16 hours, exhausted. With 2 kids ready to see the sights, we walked to the beach. At 4:00 we went back to the hotel and rooms were still not ready. The man that was now at the desk was beyond rude. The lady that was there got us towels since our kids were wet from the beach. When finally 1 room was ready we went up and it was a little while before our 2nd room was ready. Side note- we did request an early check in for 2:00. As we sat in the lobby other guests were checked in. The breakfast every morning was horrible, nothing was hot or even warm. No selection and most trays were close to being empty.

The fact it was close to the beach and walking distance to various stores was nice.. the hot tub was filthy, there were spiders in my room, the plug on the desk didn't work, plus it looks like someone tried to patch the ceiling and failed horribly. The handicap room (what was reserved by me) has a fire alarm door bell (along with the flashing light) not good for my husband who has seizures. The front desk did not alert me about it so when my child rang the doorbell it scared my husband to where his body reacted and started seizing. Would not recommend, will definitely not be staying again.

It was nice and quiet spending new years with the family.

Property is in the WORST condition. Rooms and Hallway do stink. Front desk staff was very rude. Not a family friendly at all.

Perfect location. Staff is friendly and breakfast makes it easy to get ready for your day especially with the kids. Always a great stay.

This was our first stop on our college tour in CA for our son. The room was spacious and comfortable for our family of 5 with 2 queen/double beds and a sleeper couch. Also, the location was perfect - short drive to UC San Diego and walking distance to the beach. The property needs some maintenance. The toilet needed to be plunged and the walls/ceilings could use a new coat of paint. This however didn’t stop us from enjoying our stay. The staff was friendly and super helpful. The price was reasonable given other options and yes we had to pay for parking.

Great hotel with breakfast buffet and within walking distance to the beach. Definitely recommend for families. Outside has a heated pool which was great for our visit in February

My family stayed here at Holiday Inn Express-Solana Beach July 8-10, 2022. What a great place! We had 2 suites to accommodate the 10 of us. There was plenty of room. The staff was very friendly and they were knowledgeable of the area! The location was perfect. Just outside of San Diego. The beach was a quick 10 minute walk. If you’re looking for a good dinner spot, try the Solana Beach Fish House. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but the seafood and the Paella was so good! We will definitely stay here again!
