Gateway Hotel Santa Monica

Well staff was amazing and friendly. The room was very clean and quite. The beds where comfortable. My wife and I slept like babies. Also our two boys loved the room and had no trouble sleeping. Would definitely come back when I'm around the area again.

It was a nice property with small rooms. Great for a one night stay. With a family it was challenging as there was no microwave in the rooms and we're very small.

In the bathtub, I almost slipped while taking a shower. So I laid face towel for non skid. I was surprised to find that the fridge/freezer froze my drinks. At least I didn’t need extra ice to travel back home.

Stayed one night to visit family and to work virtually (I live in PA). The internet connection was sufficient for Zoom. I had safe a 10 minute walk to family. Room was clean and pleasant. The only downside for some may be the emergency vehicle sirens on the street below from time-to-time due to the medical center nearby. Overall, this hotel is a great value for the money. This was my second stay and I'll be back.

Breakfast is as simple as you could even imagine (banana, yogurt and coffee) If traveling with kids, either choose another hotel or buy food for the morning.

Very clean. Even though things seem older, they have been well kept. Staff all have masks, and take safety precautions: they pour coffee for you and have pre-packed to go breakfast bags you can get in the morning. Our room was cleaned everyday. Parking was downstairs and easy. AC in room, not loud. Cons: . Does not provide traditional comforter, but the layered blankets were fine. . The faucet spout for hand washing does not reach out all the way, and water gets everywhere. Otherwise decent stay and I'm pretty picky. Again, some things are on the older side, but they've done a great job keeping it all in good condition. The morning breakfast was helpful to have a quick banana for the kids.

The rooms are nice, clean and spacious. The hotel doesn't have a restaurant and a bar. There's a mexican restaurant next door that opens at 11:30 am (not open for breakfast). They don't have a breakfast buffet in the hotel available like they said on their amenities. What they have is a GRAB-AND-GO breakfast (it has 1 small muffin and a fruit and a cup of coffee on the side) that they pack in a bag for guests to pickup at the lobby at a specified time and bring to their rooms. We came early hoping we can do an early check-in but reception denied that also, telling us that their check-in time starts at 3 pm and that there's no room available yet. We came back at 2pm and they still told us that no room is available yet. Reception insisted that check-in starts at 3 pm! There were already other guests waiting also to check-in but were all denied...so we all waited around lobby! VERY DISAPPOINTING AND VERY INCONSIDERATE STAFF!!! Would not recommend this hotel to friends and family!

My wife and I live just blocks away from this hotel. Whenever we have family in own, be it from here in the US or from Scotland, we put them up at the Gateway - and the staff has not only become accustomed to seeing our family come to town, they have gotten to recognize them and welcome them back upon each visit.

Check-in staff seemed weary. Was given a room w a crappy view, and we had thunderous people above us (the floors are laminate, not carpeted.) No amenities in room, so we had to ask (twice!!) for coffee and extra towels (room only had two), even though we booked for a family of three. Floor wasn’t totally clean, and chair had strange stuff on it…overall, A totally mediocre experience for the $$$.
