Situated right next to York train station which was wonderful check in was friendly and room service available if required wish I could have had the time to use all the facilites on offer but just stayed overnight. Breakfast paid for in advance lots of choice and friendly staff. Visited York in order to spend the day at the Train Museum with family which was just a 15 minute walk away through the station.

We arrived at the hotel early, did all the booking in, left our bags with reception, and went into York. On returning we collected our keys and our bags were taken up to our room. I had previously ordered, as a surprise for my husband due to it being our 30th anniversary, a box of chocolates and a fruit platter, both of which were waiting for us. The junior suite was lovely and airy, looking out towards the garden and Minster, there was also a box containing biscuits and various packets of teas/coffees, and cans of water in tbe fridge. We had also booked evening meals, and these were very enjoyable and tasty, the burger for my husband and the fish for myself, followed by salted caramel ice creams. Throughout our stay the staff were lovely, very helpful and considerate and always available. When we booked out we left our bags with them until time for our train. Thank-you to all the staff for a relaxing time.

Had a couple of days city break to have a look round York. The hotels location was excellent being a couple of minutes walk from the rail station. On arrival we were informed that we had been upgraded to a junior suite which was very nice. We had arrived early and the desk kindly looked after your bags til we arrived again later in the afternoon. We really enjoyed our time here and would return!

Property is beautiful, there must be so much history in it but it shows in the rooms and the facilities. Closeness to train station is a huge positive till your given a room on the edge of the platform and wake up to every train announcement from 5.00am. Staff knew very well that they had put a family there but said sorry and that was it. Even though the floor was empty with quieter rooms!!

What a great building! On first impressions this is definitely a wow hotel, we were greeted by reception and check in was smooth and quick. We were in a junior suit on the 5th floor again first impressions were lovely nice sized room and bathroom with lovely views over York. As this was a junior suit some items missing like dressing gowns and slippers but these are incidentals. The bed however is a major thing for anyone’s stay and you would have thought in a grand building within a junior suit the bed would have been luxury…. It was probably one of the worst mattresses we have ever stayed on ( worse than a Brianna Hotel Bed). So after a really bad nights sleep we were already up early so we’re at breakfast for 7am The breakfast room looked lovely well presented, staff were rude when requesting cranberry juice which wasn’t nice so just settled for a coffee and cereal to start, bearing in mind that the hot options had only just been put out and that we were the first in to the dining room all of the hot options were only mildly warm to cold in the Bain Marie, explained to the breakfast staff how looked confused and not sure what to do so I went to reception to ask for some one more in charge, Duty manager came straight away to the breakfast room went to the Bain Marie by which time the chef now appeared. The duty manager came back to us and said that the temp had been taken, but no checks done after that to maintain temp very poor experience Manager did apologise again.

For the price paid for a junior suite, I expected more. I’ve lived and stayed in York many times, and I felt I’ve had better for less money. The room was massive but, for me, it lacked finer touches: some free snacks and drinks, maybe a free drink in the restaurant. It was ‘nice’ but not £170.
