The kids wish token, children's book area were lovely touches, it's nice for a hotel to be kid friendly but they should try and cater for kids aged 8 too rather than just the little ones. Kids can eat free if a parent is dining, shame they can't make the kids meals free for all kids staying at the hotel without stipulating a parent should order a main meal too. £16.50 for macaroni cheese, overdone garlic bread and salad is very overpriced. Thankfully breakfast was good quality, fresh and lovely.
Negatives from our stay included very poor soundproofing so you could hear the TV and coughing from other guests rooms, doors opening / closing, kids running and shouting so we didn't have a good night's sleep. The room was also very cold and the thermostat didn't work when we tried to make it warmer. We mentioned to the receptionist and she advised they would have a word with maintenance and offered some loyalty points, explaining she couldn't compensate us for our poor sleep as I had already paid for the room in full through Expedia, sadly not a good first impression for a family staying in holiday inn for the first time.
The pool was very small and I wasn't impressed with the 30 minute slots that had to be pre booked, it's a lot of faff getting kids changed, showered and dried for just 30 minutes in the pool. I specifically booked the hotel for a family swim after diggerland so I wasn't impressed with the restricted time limit on Saturday evening.

We have been visiting this hotel for about 3 years it's great for families as kids eat free and the indoor pool.
The staff are always friendly and nothing is to much trouble.
My only negative is that the rooms are starting to look like they need updating and showing signs of wear and tear.

This has been our short break hotel of choice for 10+ years, and we have come to love it as a second home. Sadly in recent years, the hotel has started to feel unloved, and worn. Rooms, although dated, remain very clean upon arrival, but the corridors, especially the carpets/ threshold strips are showing their age. During our stay, we heard separate families complaining about the door closers failing, meaning the doors slam constantly, day and night. We also noticed this, in our wing, it felt like every door slammed at some point through the evening/night. We also joke about the cobwebs and dust in the light fittings in the reception lounge area, as every year, the same ones are there!
We felt however that the worst changes now implemented, are the restricted times, and booking system now in place for the use of the pool. Despite being told sternly when questioning this, we know for a fact that this is a recent change. Also the changes to the dinner menu for dinner bed and breakfast guests is now restricted to select items, and we were told CANNOT be varied/substituted. The pate for example came with literally half the crusty bread we have had previously, and the bar staff were brilliant, andcould only apologise, recognising it was insufficient, and admitting that they were recieving regular complaints. Apparently management have "tightened up" and are watching. For business, or a stop over, this is a hotel that will do, but for families, it's definitely lost it's appeal.

All staff were nice and room was ok. Lack of space to hang all our coats and towels. Dog friendly so woken up by a dog barking and can hear kids running down the corridor outside the room, but I don’t mind that. Had to change rooms once as both the tv and the socket by the bed didn’t work. Restaurant was pricey but friendly. Kids had lots of treats from the hotel. Breakfast was nice and lots of options. Slight mistake with bill upon check out but clarified and rectified in the end (I think)…
