Boxmoor Lodge

Was attending a funeral not very far from hotel and they were able to accommodate about ten adults and two teenage children. The rooms all suited our needs. My bathroom was a little dated but very clean. Other people in my group had beautifully refurbished bathrooms. Probably a work in progress. I only had the continental breakfast and there were a lot of options with limitless tea and coffee. The staff were very helpful, polite and friendly. Would recommend.

Good hotel with excellent continental breakfast. We chose it as being the only hotel on the west side of Hemel Hempstead, close to our family, and for its reasonable pricing. The delivery of keys at reception was fast, and they made every effort to find us a ground floor room to avoid their stairs. Very helpful staff.

I arrived in the early evening, to be greeted by a closed reception and a number on the door to call. I did so, but could hardly hear the woman who answered as a small child was screaming very close to her phone. I had to ask three times what my room number was, before being able to hear the. number 16. Not very professional. I went to the room, to find it smelling very musty. All the soft furnishings and the carpet looked and smelled as though they had not been cleaned for a very long time, although at least the sheets were clean, and it was obvious that some previous guest had been smoking in the room. There was a loud noise of rushing water coming from the bathroom, and I found that the toilet was running continuously instead of filling up the cistern. I had no desire to ring and listen to the screaming child again, and being a handy type of person, I fetched some tools from my car and fixed the cistern. The next morning I went to the breakfast room (breakfast finished strangely early at 9am) and informed the lady there of the problem with the toilet. She wasn't very interested. I can't comment on the cooked breakfast as I didn't have one. The coffee was passable. After returning home I emailed the hotel and requested a small partial refund due to the problems listed above, then emailed again a week later, but they have not had the courtesy to reply. All in all, a very disappointing stay, and I would recommend Boxmoor Lodge to no one. This is a true account of my experienc

What was good - 1. towels were fluffy 2. shower was strong. 3. 10 min walk from the station 4. Right near parkland and good for walk 5. Harvester and nice restaurant on canel 10 min walk away What was bad - 1. when i checked in, which was via phone as reception is not manned, there was so much background noise from kids on the call i didnt really hear what he said. I checked in at 6pm. 2. i had to keep the bathroom door closed because the smell of urine was so strong. 3. There was a hair in bath and it looked like a pubic hair. 4. Tv controls had no battery cover and couldn't get them to work. 5. Room itself was on ground floor and room door was to outside. Locks did not look secure in my opinion and i slept with my suitcase against the door. 6. Soundproofing to outside was poor with all windows closed i needed to wear ear plugs. I did make the hotel aware of my issues and was offered free breakfast which i did not take. Overall a disappointing stay and i wont be back. Shame as area is ideal!
