We had a wonderful 2 night stay in the family room at the top of the hotel. The ‘room’ is actually more of a suite, with three bedrooms, a living area and a bathroom. Perfect for families who need more space.
The staff without exception were friendly and helpful and welcoming.
The grounds are beautiful and be sure to check out the secret swimming pool if it’s open! The hotel itself is quirky and interesting. Breakfast was good. A short drive into Hastings with a good selection of pubs more locally too for dinner.
Highly recommend a stay here.

I cannot recommend this hotel for families, we had room 10 which is advertised as a family room for 3 guests, however what it does not tell you is that it is 2 rooms with a single and a double in with a fire escape between the two rooms! We were not comfortable leaving our young son in the single room as we would have to lock him in and sleep in a separate room some way down the hall, so we ended up moving the single mattress onto the floor in our room, which was not ideal and certainly we would no5 have booked this room if we’d have know this before booking. The breakfast was OK but on our second morning they had run out of many items and we were only one of two sets of guests staying here! This hotel is ok for couples, a little tired but not suitable for families

The owners went out of their way to assist and support me. The food was wonderful and the room so comfortable and clean. I have already recommended them to family and friends.

This is the opposite of a faceless modern hotel. It is quirky, interesting and homely. We parked in the hotel parking area. We were warmly welcomed by Katie with a glass of wine as we decided what time we would like breakfast. We chose full English, which was very nice. Next morning we chose a continental breakfast and there were other choices available. We shared a large table and chatted with 2 other guests at breakfast, which was nice. Our room (10) was a good size. It was in a corridor with our bathroom next door and a single room at the end of it. It was actually a family suite, although we did not need it. Just as a point of interest, it would not have been appropriate for a child under 10 as it was separate. It would be suitable for a teenager or a 3rd adult. The huge stuffed bear in our room was a bit of a surprise. It made us laugh although I’m not sure why it was there! The bed was quite comfortable but pillows were a bit hard. There was no availability for dinner on our arrival date but Katie recommend an Italian restaurant in Rye which was lovely. We had a wonderful Thai meal on our 2nd evening, cooked by Bella (Manager) especially for us and finished our drinks in the lounge after Bella chatted to us about the house’s history. The grounds are interesting with plenty of places to sit. Had the weather been warmer, we would have tried the swimming pool. We would definitely stay again as we were well looked after by Katie and Bella and it was very reasonably priced.

To start with, the hosts are incredibly friendly and helpful, the location is good, and the breakfast was very nice. My issues really relate to the room, which was room 10, so other rooms may differ. It is advertised as having a double bed and a single bed and I was staying there with my wife and three year old son. The double bed is in one room, which is the room which locks. Down a short corridor is the single bed in a smaller room with no lock, the bathroom also being off this small corridor. In said corridor are two fire doors, neither of which are locked. So, if you are a couple with an older child, this is fine, you can close the doors. However, we had to sleep with all the doors open in case our son decided he wanted to come to us. Clearly everything was secure in the daytime whilst we were out because the main room was locked, but did think that the description for this room needs to be clearer because it wasn't ideal for a couple with a younger child. To be fair, it isn't a big venue so not lots of people walking around, but there is also signage to denote where rooms are, so would be easy for someone to wander through this door by mistake. So really, just think the description needs to be clearer as to the layout of the room.
