Hotel Barcelona Universal

We were family of 3, we got very dark room . It was room with inside window, so it seemed night time 24/7 :( towel dryer doesn’t work in bathroom, we told in reception but no action was taken :( it was rainy period so dryer would help .

I would stay here again and would recommend it to others. What i liked: Location is great! Staff are great for the most part. The room we had was large. Kettle was nice. TV size and channel options were just eh. The private patio was awesome and I'm not sure how we ended up with it. Lots of food options nearby by and within walking distance of a lot of activities. The metro is literally right outside the building. What I didnt like: i think its a bit pricy. The room we were in was run down (safe didn't work, sink cracked in several places, toilet lid cracked and would run or flush randomly, had to open window, in the winter, in the bathroom to aleviate the steam, the edges of the furniture were all beaten up and missing). The fridge was crammed with items to purchase so you had remove their stuff if you want to put your own drink in. Apparently, even tho they have a resturant and a rooftop dining area, you cannot get eating utensils if you get take away and forget to check. The walls were only so-so at filtering out noise, especially talking, from other rooms and hallway. We all need to be quieter and not do things like let the door swing and slam shut, having full blown conversations in the hallway or letting your kids run like lunatics but apparently some people are oblivious to everything. And finally, laminent or hard flooring might looks nice and easy to clean but it also means you're going to hear every foot step, child running, and item drop from the room above you bec

The hotel location makes it easy to get in and out of the city. The parking garage is quite tight to negotiate an SUV sized vehicle. The rooms were very nice and water pressure in showers was excellent but the showers door arrangement is a swinging half-door on a tub. So when taking a shower it’s somewhat slippery and until you figure the shower out some water will find it’s way to the floor. The beds are comfortable and there were a few non-Spanish TV channels. The breakfast was excellent and the fruit was very fresh and my children noted and appreciated that. We did not try dinner there because the menu seemed limited to Cuttlefish or a pork dish. The terrace on the roof has a wonderful view of the city and we all enjoyed cocktails/ refreshments there in the early evening. The location is an excellent location to La Rambla and the Hop-On Hop-Off bus tour is easily accessible with about a 20 minute walk from hotel. That tour is easily an all day venture and easily two days of one makes much in the way of stops.

Bathroom tub/shower needs safety non-skid strips on tub. Very slippery. Also needs a safety handle bar to hold on to. Getting out of tub very unsafe.

The bathroom could've been better. Lower rain shower, and a hand shower taking into consideration many women are short, and families with kids. The bathroom door did not stayed opened. The mirror by the entrance door needs better lighting in order to be useful. Everything else was perfect with the hotel, staff, and a delicious breakfast.
