Vila Galé Coimbra

The room was lovely and the breakfasts were absolute fantastic! We were able to walk along the water to downtown easily and I could run along the water into the park and all around Coimbra. The only hiccup we experienced was that they decided to clean both pools at the same time on Monday morning (when our daughter had been looking forward to finally spending the day at the pool, after our “boring” touring all weekend), but it looked like someone else got upset about that and alerted a manager, because the cleaning promptly stopped and the kids were able to play! (Which we appreciated very much!). Cleaning of the pool after hours sounds like a good idea to me, in general.

Very nice hotel with a beautiful garden and pool area. We had the family suite and the sofa bed was not that comfortable to sleep on. Otherwise the stay was very nice, the staff were also friendly and helpful.

Very limited breakfast options for non dairy family (vegan) family. The staff just kept asking us about gluten free food. I even asked in Portuguese. They clearly have no training in vegan food which for a 4 star hotel is very poor. We nipped over the road to a local shop picked up bread, butter, milk and made our own breakfast in front of them. You have to work very hard to add milk into bread, why on earth make it this hard is beyond me.

Beautifully designed and functional hotel. Very comfortable and roomy. Parking is pricey. Now realize it is mainly a tourist bus stopover as it is a mile or so from town center but they do serve a great breakfast and dinner buffet as well as high quality menu items. We loved the place...but....Internet WiFi is only available if sitting in common areas, it does not reach the room. What's with that? Btw, what's the attraction with graffiti on that college campus? It's not pretty at all and then these kids muck it up further.

From checking in staff were pleasant and helpful. We had booked a junior suite fo the 2 of us, but we were recommended to transfer to a rear, river facing, superior room instead. Normal wide range of breakfast choices. Pool and spa facilities very good. Cleanliness throughout. We were impressed by the way staff worked as a team, often changing roles to support each other. Being a short walk out of the historic centre in a quite location was an advantage and the stroll into town gave an opportunity to see everyday life and some of the interesting, but scruffy, art deco and historic buildings. We did not eat dinner in the hotel, but reception recommended 2 restaurants, Nacionale and Dux both of which were good in their own way. Overall excellent value for money.

Nice rooms and excellent facilities. Of you have a child, there is a restriction of time to use them.
