The Lancaster Hotel Amsterdam

The hotel was lovely and in a very nice location in the city, especially with kids. Only downside was that since there is no air conditioning, you must have your windows open to help keep it cool. That would be fine except that our window was right above the front entrance and there were constantly people out there smoking cigarettes/weed etc. and therefore it constantly came right in our window. Otherwise the room was very spacious for 4 people and the pull out bed was large for the two kids but the beds were overall a little on the hard side.

Across the zoo in a quiet neighborhood. Good for families

The hotel is clean. I already knew the room was going to be small. The problem was the walls are paper-thin. I arrived from a red-eye flight hoping to get a nap before I started my day and well all I could hear was the cleaning crew in the next room, the tram outside my room, and unfortunately for me, my room was right off the elevator and stairs, so I could hear everything and everyone. No nap for me. One time I went to the bathroom and I kid you not, I could hear a full on conversation from people waiting for the elevator. Can't tell you what they were saying cause I don't speak dutch but you get the message. The night before my checkout not sure what people in 4th floor were doing but sounded like dragging things around, hitting the floor, maybe construction? etc.. If you book this place make sure you ask for a room away from the elevator and stairs and if possible away from front of building. This way the only noise you hear are your room neighbors around you.

Quad room was perfect size for a family of 5. We had 2 windows and were on a high floor. Steps are steep but there is a lift. Breakfast was very nice. We liked the quiet location of the hotel.

The Lancaster was well situated near the tram lines. It’s good for a family of 4 although room is small - typical of Amsterdam hotels. We came during winter so no problems with heating, it was toasty warm and the children were not complaining.

Hotel is located at a nice spot in the city. Facilities are modern and simplistic. However, when you enter this hotel, you have to drag your own suitcases up the staircases before you can reach the elevator. This was painful for me because I was traveling with my 2 children and so had to do this job solely by myself. The breakfast buffet was also not quite as expected: selection was limited and repeated every day.
