Everything was better than expected. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel lobby, restaurant and public areas were absolutely beautiful. The room was nice sized and comfortable. The location was superb with two different tram lines just outside the door as well as a variety of canal cruises and hundreds of restaurants and shopping within easy walking distance. I hope it maintains its family friendly environment as we felt comfortable there.

Just so so in our book. Location was good. For what we paid for a suite we expected more. Bedroom was upstairs so we had to leave luggage downstairs. I asked for another room but was told they were fully booked and they would see if we could be moved the following day. We never heard anything further. Lounge floor was very squeaky. Also quite noisy with neighbouring rooms. We did have a view overlooking the canal. Our junior suite was 115.

Great location, beautiful clean property, the entire staff provided impeccable service. Sarah was so friendly! She treated us like family-Love her! Also David from concierge was top notch and very polite, he went above and beyond to make sure our stay was perfect.

If you are looking for a place to stay in Amsterdam that is close to everything, but not in the middle of the chaos, has old world charm and attentive service, the Clayton American is perfect for you. My husband and I and our two adult children (ages 21 and 18) spent two nights there in two rooms. Upon checking in there was a problem with one of the rooms, that was resolved quickly and well. We had balcony rooms, one overlooking the canal and the other the Leidseplein. Both were well appointed and comfortable. We were in easy walking distance from the museums and the Anne Frank house.
