Hotel La Joya

This hotel is a hidden gem and we are so lucky to have stayed here. This property is overflowing with old charm. Beautiful hotel on a cliffside with ocean views and ocean access, a pool, restaurant/bar, and very nice staff. My husband and I are childless, budget travelers in our 20s, but we chose to spend a little more for a room with an ocean view and it was 1000% worth it. The staff brought breakfast to our patio every morning and we felt spoiled. We were walking distance from a few restaurants, stores, recreation areas, and Punta Sur (10 mins). Food and drinks at the restaurant were great. Also the AC in the room was excellent and much needed. For us, this property was nearly perfect. However, it is a property with character, so there are some quirks. It is not the most updated, the wifi isn’t the greatest, and it didn’t seem the most handicap accessible (lots of stairs). The continental breakfast is a basket of rolls, sliced fruit, yogurt, OJ, and coffee (eggs, meat, pancakes, etc. available for an additional charge). For us, this was not a problem, but let this set your expectations accordingly.

Our junior suite seemed a little dark. The manager of the hotel happily upgraded us to the penthouse with no extra charge. The view from our room was spectacular. The place could use some attention( run down) to detail making the ambience a little warmer and cozy. Chairs, lawn chairs in the pool area need an upgrade. They could use better lighting in the pool area. Little Xmas light around pool bar etc. Hector the bartender made outstanding margaritas and daiquiris(best I ever had!) He was very gracious and attentive to our needs. The food was wonderful as well! Overall we had a wonderful stay!

Looking for a peaceful island getaway? A place with and near many amenities—bar, infinity pool, restaurant with fabulous food—but without lots of loud, obnoxious tourists? Amazing sunset views from a huge balcony, complete with hammock, rocking chairs, and a table? Most of all, do you want to feel truly and sincerely welcomed, and truly and sincerely like the staff where you are staying? At a very affordable price? Then book a stay at Hotel La Joya now!!! This hidden gem is not sleek and glitzy: it’s warm and colorful, with lovely Mexican tiles, and quite homey. The food is outstanding: I had a “to die for” chicken mole with rice on my balcony while watching the sun set one night. It was sheer heaven here on earth. The hotel is located on the quieter, south end of the island, about 1/2 mile from Punta Sur; however, there’s plenty to do: Kin-Ha and its amenities are right next door, there’s a fabulous reggae bar and restaurant called The Joint about 5 minutes away walking, Punta Sur itself, a little beach right in front of Hotel La Joya, and cab rides into centro are cheap and readily available. Best part of all: the staff!! Hector, Oswaldo, everyone! I can’t wait to return with my family.

We had a wonderful time at La Joya! We plan to go back with our family next May. Photos online are a great representation of the place. Located at the south end of the island and very quiet. About a 10 min Moto ride to North Breach where the ferry comes in. Close to the zip line area.

We have stayed at adorable little hotel two times and each time we are amazed by how charming it is! The views!!!! I could hang out on my patio all day and look at the water! We love having breakfast delivered on our patio every morning! This hotel is located on the very quiet south end of the island away from all the restaurants and shops although there are a few places to eat with in walking distance. We usually stay a few nights here then head to the north end of the island for a few nights. Definitely a place to go if you wanna get away from it all and this little hotel really makes you feel like you are in paradise! Just know that it is not adult only and sometimes you share a pool with energetic children!
