Our family of 4 had a first floor room with two full sized beds for 8 nights. The beds and pillows were comfortable and the air conditioning worked perfectly. I requested a crib via email and was told they didn't have any. Then, my husband called a few days before and was told they did have a crib. This was confusing communication and we weren't sure whether to take our pack 'n play or not. Thankfully, they did provide a pack 'n play because we hadn't traveled with ours.
The hotel provided two bottles of water every time they cleaned our room, which was enough to get by with in the mornings. It was extremely humid, so we were always thirsty!
The buffet breakfast was a 6 out of 10. The made-to-order eggs were the best option. Everything else was stale or very greasy. The employees were not always proactive about refilling the items such as cheese, avocado, fruit, or our coffee and milk, which wasn't self-serve. The fruit was surprisingly not ripe or very sweet. I thought it would be since it's a tropical area.
The pool was warm and was generally clean. The bar drinks are about $10 USD each and were nothing too special. You get a plastic cup if you want to drink anywhere in the pool area.
The beach is small and rocky with a lot of ants in one area. The beach often had pieces of trash on it, which attracted the ants. But the ocean water was perfect.
Overall, it was a fine stay and almost all employees were kind, but I wouldn't go out of my way to stay again.

This hotel is in the Olde Hotel Zone & I’m so Happy about the location. After the hustle and bustle of El Centro, the bars’ loud music and the Cruise Ship Masses; it was wonderful to come back to this hotel. Just a short car ride away but SO worth it ! Staff are helpful and attentive. The whole facility was always clean and maintained. The junior sweet at 700sft was spacious and very comfortable. Couldn’t ask for better Tranquil setting ! Most of the clientele are multiple return clients. We’ll be back !

THE VIEW WAS SPECTACULAR! Unfortunately the electricity was out on 2 days of our stay. The beach was not as nice as in Cancun. I would not recommend this for families. This is for people that want to do snorkeling. The water is beautiful.

We have stayed at Playa Azul since 2011. It is a small, intimate, family-run hotel. The staff are friendly and extremely helpful. Everyone who works there seems to take joy and pride in being there. Just outstanding care and service! No big resorts for us. Playa Azul is perfect for our family (which does include a child with special needs). Very relaxing and quiet. Great beach. Great views. Great people!! It is our Cozumel home away from home!

I rarely write reviews, but I felt I had to praise the Playa Azul. We had a great time at the Playa Azul. Every guest we met there said they had stayed there multiple times. One either side of this hotel are two very different experiences, one was a beautiful and austere westin and the other was beach club with acres of lawn chairs and 'beats'. And then there was the Playa Azul, no tvs in the lobby, no loud music, families, friendly staff, a range of people enjoying their vacations. There were a few good walkable dining options, the town was walkable but a quick $5 cab ride away. It was a nice quiet friendly place to call home for a few days.

This was our second stay at Playa Azul. We came in 2018 and again in April 2022. We felt the room was too pricey for what it was. We needed to move rooms because the family sized room was right off an area where theres a pool table and people can congregate. It was extremely loud after 10:30. We asked to move rooms and were out one floor above which was a bit better. I complained of a sewer smell and they looked at me like I was crazy. The whole hotel smelled like methane gas, but I believe it is a Cozumel thing. You can smell it up and down the beach. Unfortunately, you could smell it in the room and it made it really unpleasant. I know that roaches are part of the the tropics so this may be a non issue for many, but there was a roach in the bathroom. I have a fear of roaches but this one looked less like a rainforest roach and more like a common household one. The room itself was no big deal. It was fine for a family of 4 but had a weird layout. The included breakfast was good. Some items on the breakfast buffet seemed like they were leftovers from the night before. They do make good omelettes, and have a nice selection. The food/drinks were pricey at the bar/restaurant. If you eat and drink a lot it might be worth the all inclusive but if you plan on being outside the hotel most days its not worth it. Some of the food was really good (ceviche, garlic shrimps, blended margs), and some not so much. Staff work hard, great beach service!

Good for families with small children, with wading pool. Hotel is on the point and location gets relative higher wind/waves for the west side. Clean, good food, waitstaff out at beach bar was consistently slow. 100pesos for taxi to town. But the thing which is the most irritating is that there's a beach club right beside it with15-20 seadoos, Westin on the other side with another few seadoos, and every day brought seadoo noise, 2-stroke exhaust smells and rookie drivers to risk your swimming.

This was my 2nd time at Play Azul and when I get to Cozumel, the only place I want to be is Playa Azul! The staff is so incredible, they treat you like family and take excellent care of you! I emailed before my trip with a few special requests and they emailed right back and took great care of my needs. We did the All Inclusive and it is so worth it! Their food is EXCELLENT with lots of different options. The drinks are delicious (hello Pina Coladas!). The beach is private and never crowded. They provide snorkel gear and the snorkeling is great just stepping right out your room into the ocean. The first time I came it was on a romantic beach vacay with my fiance. This time I brought my mother and two best girlfriends and we had the time of our lives. The sunsets are the BEST! You are just a few minutes from Downtown shopping and taking a taxi is easy. If you want a trip of a lifetime book at Playa Azul and you will never forget it!
Special thanks to Kermit, Darwin, and literally EVERYONE working at Playa Azul! You make it feel like a home away from home!

Upon arrival, the outside appearance is somewhat plain. The lobby was not extravagant but was clean and well kept. We upgraded to an ocean front suite that was very roomy and updated. The AC in the room would put icicles on your toes. The resort is very small compared to others we visited in the past. There are only 50 rooms at this hotel which makes it nice and quite, even with a handful of children running around. We never had to wait for a seat, food, or cocktails. This is a problem at many of the larger resorts. The beach is a bit small and not as nice as the resorts south of town, but it was more than adequate for our needs. The service was as good or better than any we have had before. We will definitely revisit this resort. Golf was free while staying here and golf club rentals are free before 9:00 AM.
We have been to Secrets, Melia, El Cozumeleno, and Cozumel Caribe.
