Sonder Salute Palace

What an amazing stay at the Sonder Venice. Our room was fabulous, the area was easy to get to and very quiet which was perfect for our family stay. The hotel staff were amazing, very professional and helpful especially Blessen who checked us in. We will definitely be back again, thank you Sonder for making our stay in Venice so exceptional.

Overall, this is a lovely hotel for a stay in Venice - we were there for 3 nights. It's situated in Dorsoduro which we discovered is more of a residential neighbourhood. Therefore, it does not suffer from tourist overcrowding, and it is delightfully charming to wander around the streets, and home to some terrific family-run trattorias. At the time of our stay, Axel had only recently taken on ownership and management. On our first night, the AC stopped working, however, the manager upgraded us to another room the following day, and also fixed the AC in the hotel immediately. The rooms were very comfortable, the decor lovely and the staff generally most friendly. Our one big disappointment with the hotel though is that it felt very gay friendly, as opposed to hetrofriendly - there were many more straight guests than gay. In addition, we noted that the Pride flag was permanently twisted up with the other flags/ropes, so never fully flying - I wonder if this is done intentionally due to some of Italy's anti-LGBTQ culture. This is NOT what we expected especially having stayed at both the Berlin and Barcelona Axel hotels, and no-one had managed our expectations to this when we booked. We would have also liked to have been able to use a hotel gym/spa, facilities available at the other Axels (to be fair though, their site is clear that these do not exist at the hotel).
