This is an iconic hotel in the heart of Delhi. The hotel itself is stunning and features surprisingly large, well maintained rooms. As a South Asian American, I didn't love the British imperialism nature of the hotel (artwork, gifts from Kings, etc.), but I understand the importance of recognizing the history of the hotel and the country. The staff was generally friendly, but they were not as openly welcoming as some other places we've stayed - there was always an underlying tone of formality to out interactions. I would recommend this hotel for business travelers or people looking for what India must have felt like under British rule. I would not recommend it for people with small kids or for those looking to experience India the way Indians do. I will note, though, that the location is incredible, and is an easy walk or drive to a lot of shopping and tourist attractions. The food at the hotel is incredible, and the breakfast is still a source of conversation in our home. Overall, it is a great place to stay and I would recommend it.

Recently back from a long trip of India, stayed in many beautiful properties Oberois, Leelas, Taj, etc.. The Imperial New Delhi is the worst property I have seen. Horrible customer service and incapable staff. All other hotels I have stayed in greeted with welcome garlands and drinks, this one greeted with the list of extra charges. More than charges we were turned off with unwelcoming and uninviting vibes we got. During the check-in process, they assigned one of the ladies to show us the property, we were totally turned off after the walk. She walked us through the property like she is the jailer and we were some new inmates she got. Even though they tried to upgrades us to the suite, we did not want to waste our one day at this property and walked out and had no regrets that we lost our non-refundable one day stay because we ended up staying one of the most inviting and welcoming properties of our life, Oberoi Delhi. In contrast to The Imperial New Delhi, Oberoi has most welcoming staff, upgraded us realizing that I have 12 years old that may need extra bed and room I booked was too small for that. took good care of us and my kids. My Kids loved Oberoi so much that we made sure we stay at Oberoi everywhere else we went in India, Udaipur, Mumbai etc..
