Very nice, clean property, a short drive to the historic district. Well appointed room (junior suite) with an excellent breakfast. The sports bar attached to the hotel is in need of a makeover but there are other options within easy walking distance. We will stay here again.

Check in person was not the friendliest. Room was directly across from breakfast room. We initially thought this would be great, but that was not the case. Loud, crying kids starting at 7am. Room was not sound proof. Heard every conversation in hallway and adjoining room. Room key needed to be replaced 3 times because it stopped working. Strange music started to be heard in the middle of the night…still not sure where that was coming from??? We have travelled with hockey for about 10 years and have stayed in lots and lots of hotels. This one would rank as one of the most expensive and least worth the money. We would not stay here again.

As Canadians living abroad, our first trip home after 3.5 yrs with our kids to visit their 86 yr old grandfather is a huge deal! We thought that Niagara on the Lake in the fall would be a wonderful way to spend time together. The hotel is great, well-situated in town, clean, and with decent morning breakfast. Our experience checking in was abysmal. The front desk clerk, Penny, must have been having a horrible day (she seemed cross in day 2 as well) and directed her ire at us checking in at 8pm. The exasperated sighs, eye-rolling, and cold demeanor (no smile, or welcome to the hotel) was an awful way to start our trip. All other staff were phenomenal, exuding the Canadian warmth and hospitality we have known all our lives. Perhaps those who are habitually grumpy might be better suited behind the scenes.

This Best Western hotel offers straightforward and very pleasant accommodation, in an attractive 2-storey modern colonial-style building. The hotel is only a 10-minute walk from the main shopping street, Queen St, and it's the same distance to the Common and historic Fort George, by the Niagara River. Niagara on the Lake is a pretty, residential, and very historic township in a stunning location. My family and I stayed here for two nights, as a base for visiting the Falls but also with time to explore this town as well. We had one room with two queen beds, which included all the basic amenities, but without much wardrobe space. The hotel offers inclusive breakfast, which is "continental" but includes scrambled egg, sausage-patties (burgers) and self-cook hot waffles with a selection of toppings (Yum!). Next to (and part of) the hotel is the Butler Sports Bar & Grill. This bar-diner is used by local working folk and may look a bit uninspiring at first but believe me, my family and I had two of the best lunch-time meals of our holiday there. The ladies who run it were really friendly, the pizza was divine and the wings with homemade Blue Cheese dip were out of this world! Meals can be charged to your room. We would certainly stay at the Colonel Butler again.
