Alto Hotel on Bourke

Rooms need a makeover. Shutters falling apart, showers no good, fridge doesn't open properly because of the floor etc. Had a complaint that there was a lot of banging at 9:30pm which was just my family of 5 walking normally up & down the stairs in our room, we had to start tip-toeing. Staff seemed to know very little about anything in the area when asked. Tried to charge me again for the extra bed I had already paid for when I requested sheets for it. Room has no toaster...? When asked it is 'not included'. I don't think I have ever stayed in a place that didn't have a toaster. Charged $35 for offsite parking, saw a sign there the next day that said any time rate was $12. Do not recommend, location is the only good part.

Great location and perfect for our family of 4

Really lovely stay. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, and the little touches, like baggage storage, lolly bar, and affordable mini bar really made it extra special. One of the things that was good about the room was the shutters and balcony door - we could get fresh air into the room on a stifling Melbourne day, and the air-conditioning worked wonderfully. The location is perfect for families - not too far from the Skybus, so no schlepping bags, and super close to the 96/86 tram stop. There's a 7 Eleven a couple of doors up, and am Ezy Mart with some novel treats.

Had a fantastic stay with our family of 5. Location is very convenient with tram stop and train station close by. Plenty to eat around the area too. The free coffee and hot chocs were very appreciated.

Beautiful exterior. Beautiful building. Was hard to understand the reception staff when we wanted anything. Language barriers. Disappointing breakfast. Paid for breakfast but a family before us ate everything (breakfast started at 7.30am and we arrived at 8am) and then basically nothing was left for the rest of the guests ! Only one person on. Don't waste your money. We used the sofa bed but the extra bedding was pitiful even though we paid for an extra person. We had to ask for extra towel. You have to be good at Tetras to fit in their tiny parking.
