Great, safe location and helpful staff members. The room we stayed in was comfortable enough and had a great view, but was tired - the carpet was worn out, especially around the edges and the cleaning of the margins of the room was not thorough (bar fridge, around the bathroom vanity, air vent above the toilet - not hard to do when there is attention to detail). The shower leaked to the bathroom floor, and there was a bit of mould here and there, but that's hard to beat in Nth Qld. Overall, we enjoyed the stay, and the kids enjoyed the pool - even though it is in need of repairs (crumbling wall on one side). Would be good to see a bit of $$ spent to address these issues. All tax deductible!

We went there to watch a footy game. The single room was big enough for a family of four. The kids loved the roof top pool and it was walking distance to everything we wanted

Excellent service from receptionists, we called to let them know we may be late to check in but they assisted and were well mannered on phone & in person. Thank you team for that & being welcoming at the front desk upon arrival & checkout. Excellent service from one of the Kenyan ladies who worked graveyard shift Friday 08/03/24 11pm - Saturday 09/03/2024 7am-8am she was very kind, helpful & a hard worker even though it was very cold & windy upstairs by pool area. When I called reception to assist with our tv asthe Netflix account was saying “unable to connect to wifi”. A staff member had this fixed for us while we went out to get some food. Thank you! Room looks exactly as it does as per advertised, very clean, beautiful views from our balcony/room as we were located on the 11th floor. Our view was of castle hill & at night time early morning the view was breath taking. Pool was amazing! Beautiful to swim in, view from the 20th floor (where pool is located) also stunning! Only thing I’d say could use improvement will have to be “the hotel underground car parking”. If they can invest in a direct lift from car park to reception/ rooms, that’ll be perfect! I’d say it’ll be more safer for everyone especially those with kids/a family & a lot easier when unpacking/packing the car. Apart from that everything was great, will definitely book our next stay here whenever we’re back in Townsville & will have to try the breakfast buffet too. Overall rating 10/10 🙌👌

Front staff did not offer me the complimentary parking at the time of check out. I found out about it by overhearing a guest signing in the next day. The staff member was deliberately getting me to pay $50 for parking and failed to offer me their secure outside complimentary parking . Both mornings woke up at 6 am to banging, sounded like balls rolling , felt like we were in a tenpin bowling alley , kids being loud . I found out later they positioned us next to the gym

Great stay! Appreciated sincere welcome card in the room as a repeat user. Good room with small balcony overlooking the water canal. Everything was super clean and balcony gave me a nice fresh breeze. Enough power-points for my laptop/charger and had free wifi. It's super close to great restaurants, across from the Cowboy's Club. Micro brewery, Perc Tucker Art Gallery plus fast and furious weekend late nightlife area for the young ones down the other end. Palmer Street across the footbridge for more restaurants.Casino is also just a uber /taxi ride away (I walked it easily one NYE - approx.30-40mins). Locally, this hotel is an icon and called the 'Sugar Shaker' for its shape. I feel the hotel has improved since HGC has taken over. My experience is over 15+ years as a business/private traveller. Rennovations are still occuring but it can only get bettter long term. The pool is closed due to rennovations but the Toubruk Pool and a great beach is on the Strand where there are coffee shops and eateries plus a wonderful free water park on most weekends for the kids. The Hotel does a good breakfast buffet. Didn't have it this time as I had an early plane. Secured parking isn't guaranteed as its shared with other building tenants- first come first served and there is a charge. However, there is also a huge paid secured parking company in a building just behind the hotel - easy walking distance of approx. 5 mins. Yes, this was a good stay for me.

I didnt like the idea of having my older children on a different floor to us, and the fact that i confirmed days before that the rooms would be next to each other is disappointing that they didnt accommodate my request and then could fix it due to being booked out. There was no.offer of discount or offer of a complimentary meal for their stuff up. Only thing offered was a room change the next day, this is the last thing we wanted to do after travelling to Townsville.

On check in the lady was clearly getting frustrated as i do not know the area and her instructions for the parking were terrible. It turned out we nearly entered the wrong one. Husband spotted, just, the P sign for ours. Then was not told about the drop off area which would have been EXTREMELY handy with luggage and kids on both check in and check out days. Parking is horrible if you have more than a few bags and you have kids to deal with too. You have to get out of your vehicle to open parking complex gate, then scan again to open boom gate, then find an allocated park for hotel. Don't have have a big vehicle... Due to parking, we won't stay again unless we have only 1 or 2 bags.

Dated hotel. Outside is being painted and balcony was not useable - covered in rubbish and flapping plastic that we could hear all night. 30 min after arriving another couple walked in on us as they had been given the same room. Room next door had a baby who cried from 4am - there is a gap about 2 cm under the room between us so there was very little sound proofing from this. Bathroom had mould stains all through the grout etc. Buffet was one of the worst we have had with very little options. We are big travellers and I have never complained before - but at the price they are charging for this the whole weekend away was super disappointing.

My trip was to visit a family member with terminal cancer so it was not the best reason for visiting Townsville again. The hotel staff were excellent in assisting me with my WiFi and phone problems. I will stay here again but hopefully under better circumstances . . .
