Mantra Esplanade

Our family were staying here for 3 nights during our vacation this year. We found this hotel and thought it looked very good and central. We booked a 3 bedroom appartment with sea view and were looking forward to that. When we arrived, we got a room with absolutely no sea view. We asked if there was anything wrong but the staff just said that this was our room and there is nothing they can do about it. We were disappointed but couldnt do anything about it. Then when we tried the beds, it was impossible to sleep in the bed sofa. It was the cheapest and most terrible bed sofa I have ever seen. We complained about this to the staff and they referred to the manager. after the whole day, we got in contact with the manager. We wanted to get an additional mattress for the bed sofa since the iron bar under the thin mattress were hurting your back when laying there. He was very rude and told us this is what you paid for and rejected all our suggestions about getting another mattress or pillows to make the situation better. Since he refused all our suggestions we requested one of us to get another room just for the night so we all could sleep in a proper bed. He said it was fully booked but at the same time we had to pay if we would want another room. That doesnt add up.... It all ended with us putting the mattress on the floor instead to be able to use the bed at all... So if you want to pay hundreds of dollars to sleep on the floor, this is your hotel.

Fantastic location, you can see the esplanade pool from the front door and all the cafes and shops are right there. The room is a little dated, the aircon was not icy and the ‘wall’ the create the bedroom was sliding louvres with a gap that didn’t really block sound and light which wasn’t ideal to let the baby sleep. Still worthwhile since it was a hassle free holiday being in the middle of everything but it wasn’t exactly cheap so perhaps the room could be spruced a bit. Oh and by the housekeepers a more powerful vacuum, I saw what they were using and it explained why the carpets weren’t super clean (babies will find everything!)

Fantastic location. We chose here because it's hard to find accommodation with a separate bedroom in cairns. Way over priced for what we got, especially because the town is very quiet due to covid.. Had to pay extra for baby cot, and 20 bucks per hour (!) If you want late checkout after 10am. Room was in bad need of refit (looks like they may have started on the passages and lifts). Brdroom separated from living room by Venetian slats, not walls, so light gets through even when closed. Old style fityings and scuffed paint. Phones not working. No dishwasher. If it wasn't for the separate room (which we needed), you can get way better, newer and cheaper elsewhere. I've stayed in other mantras that were much nicer.
