Aloft Austin Downtown

I very much enjoyed a 4 night stay here over New Year’s Day weekend. It’s a little quirky with 2 hotels in one shared building and check in on the 2nd floor but it’s a terrific hotel. I had a well appointed, very clean room on an upper floor with a great city view. Very good mattress, shower, etc. The restaurant and bar are excellent. Staff is friendly and efficient. The exercise room is fairly large, very clean, and equipment new. Location is absolutely prime to 6th St, the Capitol, downtown, etc. While it’s a chain and part of the Marriott family, it has the feel, spirit and individuality of a boutique hotel. It’s a good value for the price. Even though I’m a regular Marriott traveler with certain discounts, the Expedia rate was lower in my case than booking direct.. I would stay here again for sure.

Property was really nice. Not really kid friendly since it’s more of a party hotel. At no fault of the hotel at all, the location is not really great. It’s on the corner of 7th Street and Congress which is right next to dirty 6th Street. Went to go get stuff to eat and got hit up three different times for money and the third time harassed and cursed out for not having any cash on us. This seems to be the norm for that area.
