Wingate by Wyndham Altoona Downtown/Medical Center

Checked in on line, the night before with expected arrival indicated at 3:00. My room was not ready till 4:10 My son's family's room was missing night stand lamp shade and the other lamp had shade but no light bulb. This was pointed out to the front desk, but was never addressed by them during our 2 day stay. I guess it was not important to them. Otherwise the breakfast, pool, and facilities were very good.

Super friendly staff. Easy to check in and check out. Breakfast was perfect for our family and kids.

Good price, very clean, decent breakfast options provided, updated room and showers. My grandkids enjoyed the pool. Close to get on I 99.

Tiffany at the front desk was very friendly. Room was nice and perfect for our family of 5 (2 adult, 2 kids and 1 baby). We had a nice stay with no complaints.

We didn’t arrive until after dark, but the parking area was well lit and lended itself to feeling safe, especially in an unfamiliar city. The main lobby space was inviting, and the front desk staff person was quick and courteous. Check-in was a breeze, and we were able to get to our room, and right to the pool to enjoy some swimming with our kids!

We stay in Altoona frequently as I have family and friends there, and in fact grew up in Altoona. We decided to try this hotel because we were seeing a show at the Mishler theater, and we were glad we did. (We were also able to walk easily and quickly to the venue from this hotel.) VERY clean, attractive, with fenced, safe parking, a small but well stocked bar off the lobby, great breakfast - better than the usual garbage in some places - and just a very modern, hip vibe. Front desk staff, and other service personnel we encountered in the hotel here and there were all cheerful and friendly. We will surely stay there again.

Our room was excellent!! Clean, roomy and perfect for our family. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The kids loved the pool but the only thing is that it was so humid in the pool area you couldn't breathe so it was hard to stay in there and watch the kids swim. Over all everything else was great!!

Expectations were not met. Started off great. Staff was friendly, check in was fast and pleasant, atmosphere was vibrant at the bar with an older crowd enjoying themselves. Parking was close and convenient to the hotel. Room however, was the disappointment because of the cleanliness. Bed side table had some weird sticky smudge, an empty beer can was immediately noticed by my 8 year old daughter next to the bed, and the bathroom wasnt cleaned very well. It set the tone for a room that looked clean elsewhere but was not really. I get it, its a hotel... If they're missing the big stuff then I doubt they took the time to even wipe the tables, head boards, or vacuum when the last person checked out. Part of me 2nd guessed if they even put fresh sheets on the bed. I was exhausted and so was the rest of my family We had a long day of traveling and got to the hotel really late. We just slept fully clothed on the top covers. It wasnt worth the hassel with the staff. Im guessing I was probably just unlucky as most people left positive reviews. I might give it another chance but I doubt it. The other ok review I left is because of the area. We heard police or ambulance sirens throughout the night. Made me wonder if this area was ok or not.

We have stayed at several Wingates in various cities. Not sure what has changed, maybe post Covid conditions. The toiletries in the bathroom were so small a child would use them for their playtime. We had to go out and buy shower gel because the "bar" of soap was the size of a match box car. There was sign posted for Quiet time for guest between 10pm and 7am. The hallways were noisy at 2am with kids running up and down. There were no instructions on using the remote for the tv. We finally figured out that you had to press the OFF button in order for the tv to ON. The staff and front desk were friendly and the work out room was very nice.

We were literally in walking distance to UPMC hospital which saved us $3 in parking everyday to visit mom in ICU. The kids enjoyed the pool. The downtown area was nice! We had a very successful stay!
