The Mount Vernon Grand Hotel

I love the soundproof rooms. Also everything is so nice. We stay there often when we go to Mt Vernon to visit our grandchildren.

The Mount Vernon Grand Hotel is adequate. We stayed there because friends of ours had booked a room for Thanksgiving night, but that morning, their two-year-old daughter fell ill and was vomiting, so they had to cancel their trip to Mount Vernon entirely. They called the hotel to explain their situation and to ask if they could cancel the room, to which the hotel said that only Hotels.com could arrange for the cancellation. So our friends called up Hotels.com and explained the situation again to them, to which Hotels.com said they'd need to call the hotel itself to arrange for the cancellation. The Hotels.com representative did so and after a while came back and claimed that the Grand said that they could cancel the room for a fee that was equal to the cost of the room, namely $179. Our friends weren't happy about this, even though they knew that they'd exceeded the deadline for a free cancellation. They'd had this same situation last year with a Hyatt hotel, but that time Hyatt was very understanding and fully refunded their room payment, even though they'd gone past the free cancellation deadline. That's because the people at Hyatt are understanding and have human traits. So, our first impression of the Mount Vernon Grand Hotel was not a good one, in that we found it unreasonable for that hotel to be so inflexible in the face of a family illness, but we didn't want our friends to waste their money on an empty room, so we stayed there. The beds weren't uncomfortable.
