Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Rock Falls, IL

I come to Sterling frequently to visit family and have stayed at Country Inn many times. I do not see enough improvement to the quality of my stay. For the last several times, the pool was not open (I travel with 3 kids), the card keys only work some of the time, there was no hot breakfast last time, etc. Over time, I would expect a hotel to get better, not lose efficiency and customer service. I think Country Inn can improve but until I see the improvement, I plan on staying somewhere else.

The staff was great. The room had some things to desire. The ceiling fan was absolutely caked in dust and dirt. The door was crooked so you could see out to the hallway through the side, so that was interesting, the furniture was stained, and the shower curtain rod looked like a child with a hammer installed it. Other than that, it was an OK stay.

Our stay was great except check in was crazy slow and the freezer part of the very tiny fridge was unusable thanks to it being iced over. However, a family member had an issue where another couple had a working key for their room and that ended up causing them to miss the wedding ceremony we were there for. The bride and groom also had issues because the hotel double booked the bridal suite!! But the room itself was a step up from most and so was the breakfast. Oh and we were really bummed that the hot tub wasn’t working!

The clerk that checked us in was nice & informative. However they wanted $150 deposit after i already paid for room and suggested I pay cash in stead if card so i would receive back in the morning instead of up to 14 days. Then i couldn't get a receipt for the cash. In which i worried about the rest of the stay. Then when i took the children to the pool there were 3 teenage boys 14 yr to 16 yrs. Rough housing hitting my 9 yr girl 6 yr girl and 11 yr boy with ball or they would run into them i asked several times to stop. That got me nowhere, i went to front desk complained went back to my room took pictures of my 11yr olds bloody foot from injury caused from the other boys. I waited in my room for 20 minutes or so went back to pool with the my 3 children only to find that they were still there and immediately started to yell at my 11 year old boy who was just sitting in the chair right beside me! Nothing was done. I think they knew one of the employees not sure but never again will i stay there again.

The hot tub was out of service and the pool could be warmer but my kids still enjoyed it. Staff likes to complain to each other about each other. Witnessed this a few times during the one night stay

Stayed for a week on a family trip. Our room was fairly clean but the property is showing its age a bit. A light switch in our room that wouldn't stay in the off position and the night clerk (we checked in late) gave us a roll of tape and told us to try and stick it down. This worked but was an annoyance over the week to constantly be sticking down. No offer to actually fix the problem. Our shower's hot water was reversed from the labels and there is very little water pressure. We were disappointed to find that the hot tub was broken during our stay and the pool was very cold (I think a problem with the heating system) but still operational so the kids loved that. This was a big part of our decision to book here. What looks like a fitness area is under construction. Breakfast is great and has lots of options - the lady that ran that was really lovely! Staff were overall friendly however we came and went at all different times of day and the group of desk staff was almost always sitting outside in a group talking. Helpful when asked for something though. There was no daily housekeeping which I don't mind (and I believe you could fill out a form at the desk to get specific things done) but if you are expecting any kind of daily cleaning/clean towels/garbages emptied etc, you will not find that here. Would probably not return for the price. I would splurge and go to the Holiday Inn for the pool or the Super8 next door for half the price if you done care about the pool.
