Crown Spa Hotel Scarborough by Compass Hospitality

A decidedly mediocre experience. Our room overlooked the back of the building, specifically the outlet area from the kitchen so we were accompanied by the heady scent of deep fat fryer for the majority of our stay. The people staying in the room opposite us were also clearly smoking cannabis in their room as the stench when they opened the door (after screaming at the the poor child what was with them for not being ready) was intense. The room was reasonably clean and comfortable but certainly nothing special. The people working on reception were not offensive, but absolutely could have been more friendly and polite. The spa area was very disappointing, felt dingy and unclean and my partner said the gents changing rooms were beastly. We also messaged the spa at the beginning of our stay regarding booking a massage, they didn't even acknowledge the message let alone book us in, which in hindsight was a blessing. Unfortunately we left something behind in the room, and despite 2 calls since returning home, we haven't heard back from the hotel despite promises they would get straight back to us.

Check in was very slow. Our room was on the top floor and it was extremely warm. There was a fan but it didn’t work very well and not at all overnight so we were very uncomfortable. There was an awful smell in the room which we realised was coming from the bathroom so got a bit better by keeping the door closed. There was an unexpected TV in the bathroom but the buttons didn’t work well, we couldn’t turn it off when we eventually managed to get it turned on! The lighting was very poor in the room. There was a fridge that didn’t work. The spa area was looking very tired and dated and it was very busy with members of the gym and lots of large families with very loud children. It wasn’t a pleasant experience so we didn’t stay very long. Overall we didn’t have a great experience and wouldn’t choose to return.

Such a beautiful property, such a disappointing experience. I booked this hotel to go to a concert in Scarborough and enjoy the pool and spa. Unfortunately, the pool and spa is unsupervised, a child was sick in the pool whilst I was swimming and it was closed and then all the children went in the spa pool with their inflatables. The sauna and steam room were monopolised but men only and was intimidating. In my room - Room 507, nothing worked. The fan wouldn’t turn off and the heater was on full blast, the tv in the bathroom looked inviting but didn’t. Work. The lifts were terrible. A polite complaint was made to the front desk but nothing done and no apology. Check in and check out was painful, a long line of people with luggage told to come back at 3 when of course a long line of people wanting to pick up keys, and on top of tag is a ridiculous £15 car park charge when there is plenty of free street parking. I am a regular to Scarborough and have had far better stays at the Grand and royal for a fraction of the price.
