5 out of 5 stars

Our stay at the Mercure was overall very positive. We travelled from north devon to visit a family member at the Churchill hospital. We arrived at 1pm on Sunday and didnt expect to check in, but asked in the bar if we could have a quick sandwich before driving to the hospital. we were told that we could only have a roast dinner or chips. When asked, staff were told by chef that this was not possible. This was not a good first impression. Apart from this everything was excellent and all staff were polite, helpful and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.

We absolutely loved our stay in April 2022, this was for our anniversary, the hotel was beautiful throughout. The staff were fantastic and when we mentioned at reception it was for our anniversary we were given a box of chocolates which was a beautiful gesture. Our room was immaculate and a great size, just little things like having a dressing gown and slippers available at the side of your bed make the stay even better. Breakfast, what can i say....wow, they had everything you want/need. Fried/boiled/poached eggs on request and they are with you within minutes and perfectly cooked. The selection was fantastic. We cant wait to come back with our family and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to everyone.

The hotel is conveniently located near the 3 and 4 bus lines into downtown Oxford, only a 5min walk to these. The staff is VERY good, and were eager to meet our every request. However, the rooms can be very loud if the guests above you tend to make alot of noise. More specifically, although the Elm House has been renovated, the basic structure is the original building and so the floors are creaky and thin. My girlfriend and I are in our late 20s, so we're not too picky about these things. But we just couldn't sleep well for several nights because the guests above had a young energetic child. Also, the buffet breakfast (which was included) was not very good. Quite bland. We stopped eating there after the second morning because it was basically the same stuff each day.
